After much discussion and thought these are the 3 names we like enough to use & the 3 that go best with our other children.

Alice
Felicity
Matilda

Sebastian
Isaac
Benjamin (although I really dislike Ben)

Which do you prefer and why?

(I like names that are heard of, that generally get a nice response from public not a raised eyebrow look)

These are all nice names, although if you don't like Ben I would avoid Benjamin.

I don't think you can really go wrong here, although I appreciate this isn't particularly helpful in terms of narrowing it down!

How do they sound with your surname?

Rrrob · 10/02/2022 14:19

Unhelpful but I like them all apart from Isaac. Agree with pp that Benjamin will be shortened.

DogsAndGin · 10/02/2022 14:20

Alice and Benjamin (Benji or Benny?)

BlueFlavour · 10/02/2022 14:22

Felicity is my favourite girls name, mainly because I like the meaning and how delicate it sounds on your tongue Smile Fliss or Flissy are sweet nicknames.
I like Issac from your boys. Same as Felicity, I like saying it.
Both strong names imho.

Comedycook · 10/02/2022 14:27

Out of your girls names, I prefer Felicity. I find Alice and Matilda a bit twee. Felicity is less common (as in popular) which I prefer.

Love all your boys names especially Benjamin. Lots of nickname options which I like and suits all ages.

Comedycook · 10/02/2022 14:28

Oh just saw you dislike Ben..in that case I definitely wouldn't use it. It will get shortened to Ben for sure.

I love Alice and Sebastian - both gorgeous names! Congratulations x

FuggyPidding · 10/02/2022 14:41

Matilda and Isaac

Very basic, popular one syllable surname so all go with it nicely.

@DogsAndGin

Alice and Benjamin (Benji or Benny?)
Love Benji, I just know eventually he would become 'Ben' and that would be ok if his choice but I would try tell family and friends he is Benjamin.. I do have a popular girls name who very rarely gets called the traditional nickname so I know it can be done..

Alice - love
Felicity - nice in theory but too long
Matilda - overused

Sebastian - don't like
Isaac - not keen
Benjamin (although I really dislike Ben) - the best but not if you don't like Ben

Mumofgirls2017 · 10/02/2022 15:23

They’re all nice. My favourite is Matilda. Just think it’s a strong name with lots of personality and nickname options. And of the super intelligent girl in the book!

I like Isaac for boy. Would nn Zack if mine. Like that it’s classic and for me no negative associations. Like the sound.

SpaghettiArmsMurderer · 10/02/2022 15:29

I don’t really like Matilda but Alice and Felicity are both nice. I don’t like Flick as a nn for Felicity though (I know one who goes by that).

I agree with pp to avoid Benjamin if you don’t like Ben. I prefer Isaac to Sebastian.

StopForAMinute · 10/02/2022 15:41

My favourites are Matilda and Isaac.

Blubells · 10/02/2022 15:55

Alice is beautiful.

I don't like Sebastian's short forms Seb or Basty (reminds me of sebaceous or oily)

Isaac can be teased with I suck.

So that leaves Benjamin
