Torn between Jude and Otis for a boy....

Confused No it isn't? It's a very popular male name. Judith is a female name which can be shortned to Jude.

I'd say Jude is absolutely a boy's name. From the epistle of Jude in the New Testament (Jude the brother of James). I know a little boy called Jude, and of course there is Thomas Hardy's book "Jude the Obscure", where Jude is the name of the male protagonist. Judy and Judith are the frmale versions.

Jude always sounds unfinished to me...like it should be a nickname rather than a name in its own right

Otis strikes me as a little bit feeble... I can't imagine a full-grown man with that name. Jude sounds very stalwart. But I personally love strong names so might just be me!

Jude is one of my favourite names. Even though its an old name I think it sounds very cool. I know quite a few boys called Otis. I don't think it sounds as nice as Jude.

Jude is the German word for Jew. Pronounced Yoo-deh. I don't think Jude travels well.

I also find Jude/Judy very feminine sounding.

I think I feel Jude/Judy is feminine as I know several female Judiths nicknamed Jude.
