Do you know any Kyles? I only know one guy who works in our coffee shop and I love the name. I’m reserving it for my 3 rd boy I think!

No
I taught lots of Kyles. I think it hit a peak about 12 years ago.

Crabwoman · 03/02/2022 09:04

No it is not unusual. Especially for the 30-15 age bracket

Riverlee · 03/02/2022 09:05

Only one I know is 20-ish.

JustWonderingIfYou · 03/02/2022 09:05

Not unusual for 20-35 year olds.

There was a Kyle in shameless the TV show...

SummaLuvin · 03/02/2022 09:06

It might be very unusual for current babies, but as PP said, not in the wider population. Your Kyle could be the only one in his class throughout education, but in the 'real' world he will be mixing with all ages and is far more likely to be one of a few. This was my experience, I have a medium used classic name and I was the only 'Summa' at school, but as since working there has always been at least one other, at one time five.

As others have said, very popular in the 1990s. Now less popular but still in the top 500 in England and Wales:

I think it's more common in Scotland, my friend's kids definitely talk about a few Kyles in their tweens / early teens age group.

redbigbananafeet · 03/02/2022 10:11

It's not unusual and coming from a teacher, it's not got a great reputation attached to it I'm afraid!

HomeHomeInTheRange · 03/02/2022 10:56

Sadly here in S London the 2 I am aware of have been involved in knife crime, gangs and county lines, with sad endings.

RedCandyApple · 03/02/2022 10:59

It’s not unusual for older people, I know a Kyle in his 30s, I would say it’s more uncommon now for babies

Itshothothot · 03/02/2022 11:01

Its known as a scally name. Its in the same boat as Kaden, Jayden, Chardonnay etc

Mrsjayy · 03/02/2022 11:02

I.know of a few youngest is 11 so it was quite popular for a time,. If you like it use it.

Notbluepeter · 03/02/2022 11:03

Super super common here in Scotland

Kitkat151 · 03/02/2022 11:05

Lots where we are....also Kai and Kayden

Mrsjayy · 03/02/2022 11:06

Yes it's a popular Scottish name. I've no idea what a scally name is?

Planetzero · 03/02/2022 11:08

I know lots of Kyles, most in their 20s-30s now.

ExcuseeeeMe · 03/02/2022 11:08

I know about 4 Kyles in my kids primary school .

cherryonthecakes · 03/02/2022 11:10

I think Jeremy Kyle will have put people off that name. I don't hear it very often which is good if you're after an unusual name

Catnipdelight · 03/02/2022 12:16

There are lots of memes about Kyle. Essentially typecast as a kid who would set fire to things and come from a troubled home. This may be more of an American stereotype!

CatsArePeople · 03/02/2022 21:34

I almost had a Kyle

Laureatus · 04/02/2022 23:06

I knew loads of Kyles at school in Scotland.... it was quite a 'Ned' name I'm afraid.

Hairyfriend · 04/02/2022 23:09

I know 2, both in their 40's. One from Australia and the other from New Zealand, so maybe it was popular there years ago?

peaceinourtime · 05/02/2022 11:28

I knew one who would be about 35 now.

Fivebeanchilli · 05/02/2022 22:28

I knew lots in the 90s. Mostly with brothers called Ryan. Unfortunately they did all seem to have a propensity to get in trouble with the law.

FlamingoDust · 06/02/2022 16:05

Not at all uncommon where I am. I know loads although the youngest at the moment I can think of is 8
