For a girl, thoughts?

Sister to Emerald... if you have any other ideas for non-jewel names that go with Emerald too that would be great.

Other name I like is Xanthe.

Maven isn't a name I've ever heard. It's a word meaning expert in some kind of knowledge. Which I guess isn't awful.

How about Morwen? Maude? Maeve?

I like Xanthe too.

Purpleavocado · 01/02/2022 15:25

Maven is yiddish for an expert, eg she's a bit of a fashion maven. I haven't heard is used as a name

WindInTheWillows7 · 01/02/2022 15:26

It gives me Glastonbury vibes (as in the New Age town in Somerset, not the festival) - but maybe you're going for something like that. It sounds quite Arthurian.

summerhillgang · 01/02/2022 15:27

Love Maeve but felt this was something a bit different. It's defo a real name as 80 children in the UK were called this last year

Xanthe is nice. Also Edina, Ariella, Octavia. I quite like the idea of another vowel name to go with Emerald.

summerhillgang · 01/02/2022 15:28

I do love that Arthurian vibe.

Also love the stripper names vibe too.

So this is a bit of a mix up.

Xanthe sounds like a cheap party island and maven isn’t great either. Back to the drawing board I think.
Emerald is lovely though. Why not try another crystal/gem/ name that sounds a bit old fashioned like Opal? Emerald and Opal for some reason sound good to me.

onemouseplace · 01/02/2022 15:35

One of the judges on America's Next Top Model had the strapline "Fashion PR Maven" so I can't get her out of my head.

I love Xanthe though.

Glitterygreen · 01/02/2022 15:50

I have heard it and believe Rachel Riley & Pasha Kovalev's daughter is called Maven.

I like it :)

1haudyerwheesht · 01/02/2022 18:40

What about Morven? Beautiful Scottish name 😍

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 01/02/2022 18:45

I like Xanthe too.

I was going to say exactly this.
lemondrop21 · 01/02/2022 18:49

I'd go for Maeve personally

DockOTheBay · 01/02/2022 18:50

This was my first thought.

There are some great names with similar sound like Maeve, Mabel, Morwen. I would probably go for one of those.

Maven
SpaghettiArmsMurderer · 01/02/2022 18:53

Agree with others, maven isn’t a name. I’ve only come across it in eg magazines calling someone a style maven.
If you want Arthurian names Laudine and Lunete are nice (from Yvain), or Enide.

Luredbyapomegranate · 01/02/2022 18:53

If my sister was called Emerald and I was called Maven I would be really pissed, Maeve is going to be very overused in 5 mins and people will just assume you stuck an n on the end.

I quite like Xanthe, but like Ianthe (eye-an-thee) better, otherwise
Ramona
Saskia
Ismene (Is-may-nee)
Domino
Odessa
Mirren
Manon
Estella
Lois
Sabrina
Meredith
Linos
Inez
Zelda
Astra
Circe
Athena
Diana

Yes! I thought of the "Highven Maven" Simpsons guy as well Grin
OhNoGroken · 01/02/2022 18:57

I know a Maven in her 30s. She is a lovely human being and it’s a lovely name that suits her.

Lemonweightloss · 01/02/2022 18:58

I like Maven. Love Xanthe.

Saisong · 01/02/2022 19:05

Is it pronounced May-ven or Mah-ven?

How about Annis, Inez or Daphne

summerhillgang · 01/02/2022 19:42

Oh love Ramona but I know someone who has a daughter called this, but it's not totally off the cards.

Zelda I love but DH vitoed that for DD1

Lol @Luredbyapomegranate saying Maven would be pissed. Emerald is a very strong name, it's hard to top

OP posts:
Flockameanie · 01/02/2022 19:47

Ramona is great. I prob would have called DD that but it does not go with our surname at all.

Emerald and Ramona is an awesome sibling combo. They will take on the world!

Flockameanie · 01/02/2022 19:49

I also like Morvern. But it is nowhere as rocking as Ramona! Also has the association of Morvern Callar. An amazing film (based on a book), but not necessarily a character I’d name a child after!

Mamette · 01/02/2022 19:51

Maeva?

GrendelsGrandma · 01/02/2022 19:53

Gwen for the Arthurian vibe
Blanche
Marina
Grainne
Clarissa

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 01/02/2022 19:54

Love Emerald, you've great taste! I like Xanthe. Maven is ok but there are much nicer names. How about Cassia, Heidi or Damaris?
