Iris

DotDotDotDotDot · 30/01/2022 13:51

I prefer Iris. I love that in Greek mythology Iris was the goddess of the rainbow.

DontTellThemYourNamePike · 30/01/2022 13:58

I prefer Iris.

With Ada it can depend where you're from. Here in NI it's pronounced almost like E-id-a and sounds quite harsh. The pronunciation Eh-da sounds lovely though.

BunnyRuddington · 30/01/2022 14:19

Ada.

Peachandpearl · 30/01/2022 14:23

Iris. I do like the name Ada too but it has become very popular so I guess it depends if that bothers you or not. Personally I have given my DC quite popular names just because I liked the names, but I know it bothers some people.

Twizbe · 30/01/2022 14:25

I like both. I'd wait now until baby is here and see which one fits her best.

LeQuern · 30/01/2022 14:26

Iris.

I really really dislike the name Ada (with apologies to a distant relative).

ThreeBalloons · 30/01/2022 14:27

They’re both v popular - Ada more so than Iris but Iris is one of those names that’s suddenly everywhere (Boris’s daughter has it for a middle I think) so actually I’d go Ada

mumofEandE · 30/01/2022 14:29

I have just had a grand daughter called Ada!
But Iris was on my short list for my own DD.

Outlyingtrout · 30/01/2022 14:30

Both very beautiful names. Iris is my favourite (and is what my last baby would have been if he were a DD) but I love Ada too. It is very popular now with the Peaky Blinders connection but that wouldn’t necessarily bother me.

BeefSupreme · 30/01/2022 17:20

I prefer Iris.

Ada sounds harsh.

moocow123456 · 30/01/2022 17:21

Iris

Mumofgirls2017 · 30/01/2022 17:27

Iris

WhoppingBigBackside · 30/01/2022 17:32

Iris

TempsPerdu · 30/01/2022 17:48

Another vote for Iris. For me it has more depth and meaning to it (goddess/rainbow/flower), and I think Ada merges into other currently trendy names like Ava and Eva so it feels a bit bland.

BeReet · 30/01/2022 18:15

Iris - but I am biased as I have my own Iris, she's 11

fortheloveofcheesecake · 30/01/2022 18:19

Ada. I love it!

UmmH · 30/01/2022 18:25

How about Ida?

Leeloo1233 · 30/01/2022 18:30

Both lovely. Iris is pronounced very differently (ee-ris) in every non-english speaking country so might be annoying to her if she ever moves somewhere else

APurpleSquirrel · 30/01/2022 18:39

DS would have been Ada if he'd been a girl - love it.

Benjaminsniddlegrass · 30/01/2022 18:51

Iris, it's my DDs middle name (it was my gorgeous granny's name)

celestebellman · 30/01/2022 19:32

Iris, slightly - though both were on my list! I think they are both quite trendy and gaining popularity.

MondeoFan · 30/01/2022 19:37

I love Iris but I'm biased as I have one

SE13Mummy · 30/01/2022 20:02

Iris

SallyWD · 30/01/2022 20:16

I love Iris! Beautiful. I much prefer Ida to Ada.
