I love it!

But my mum says she really doesn't like it and it sounds 'common' (please excuse her language 🙃).

What do we think?

(I am TTC so my baby doesn't exist yet let alone have a sex so be brutal if you like haha)

Lovely name IMO. I've known a few, of all different ages and they've all been genuinely nice, successful people. I really really wouldn't have said it's a 'common' name

Tal45 · 26/01/2022 15:11

Love it, I was nearly called it.

Bettybantz · 26/01/2022 15:11

Your mum is talking rubbish. Hazel is a lovely name. I’ve also known a few of different ages and they are all elegant, kind and fun.

REP22 · 26/01/2022 15:15

I think it's a really lovely name. Certainly not "common", I actually think it's quite classy.

I have a couple of friends called Hazel and they're both great.

Although my dad went to school with a girl called Hazel Nutt, which I think was a bit cruel on the parents' part. Poor thing.

Best wishes for your future little one(s), Hazel or otherwise. x

I don't think Hazel is a name that might be described as sounding "common" 🤔
Did she mean it's increasing in popularity?

My sister's name :)

I really like it and definitely don't think of it as common? If anything it's so rare to hear it that I don't know how you'd ever meet enough 'common' Hazels to give you that impression.

PS. This is why I'll be keeping all names secret from my family prior to birth Grin. Don't need to hear peoples dislikes!

SalsaLove · 26/01/2022 15:17

I don’t like it at all. It doesn’t sound or look nice.

This tickled me 😂

Definitely not 'common'!
It's a great name

I know 2 (age 60-70) and they are both lovely. One of them it's actually her middle name but she far prefers it to her first name so has used it for the last 50 years!

Alysskea · 26/01/2022 15:19

Thanks everyone - I agree that it's lovely! Definitely top of the list for a girl for me, and glad to have got some reassurance!!

I do actually know one Hazel that is not nice (a friends mum who is very unkind!) but many of them seem like very nice people.

Adore Hazel

SchoolWillBeUpShitCreek · 26/01/2022 15:23

Lovely

oncemoreunto · 26/01/2022 15:27

I think it is a very nice, slightly vintage name.

Not in the slightest bit common.

StopForAMinute · 26/01/2022 15:28

Lovely name

RedLemon · 26/01/2022 15:28

Gorgeous name.

FrecklesMalone · 26/01/2022 15:42

It should be a lovely name but reminds me of overweight middle aged/old women. Mainly as that is the 3 I know!

ISmellBurnings · 26/01/2022 15:43

I really don’t like it. Never have done.

Classica · 26/01/2022 15:47

I don't think it sounds common.

I do think it sounds like a 'mum friend' name. Sheila and Hazel manning a stall at the jumble sale in the 1980s.

Classica · 26/01/2022 15:48

'Mum friends' to me were born in the late 40s/early 50s

dopenguinsdance · 26/01/2022 15:59

Definitely coming back into vogue, but I don't like it and never have done. I knew 2 Hazels at different times as a child and both were MeanGirls of the highest order, though I wasn't on their radar much, thankfully. I can't even think about the adult Hazel - the human equivalent of napalm

Ignore me, I am obviously unreasonably prejudiced Grin
