Thank you for all the help with naming my first dd. Having chosen Zibiah Joanne, things haven't turned out as expected.
We got relentless flak from both sides of the family when we told them the name. Horrible things were said despite very encouraging opinions here on MN.
We registered our baby today. Carys Zibiah. Hopefully no more nasty comments and as the worst potagonists were to be honoured in the mn, hard luck to them. As you can probably tell I am very angry but if we hadn't capitulated, she would bear the brunt of their snide remarks in the future and that would be my fault.
Thank you for all your help and support.

I haven't seen your previous threads.

Carys is a lovely name

I've not come across Zibiah.

Your "things haven't turned out as expected" comment sounds a little strange. Would you normally expect your families to welcome what seems to be a very unusual name?
Is it a name from your cultural background?

RedCandyApple · 24/01/2022 23:59

I saw your other thread and I wouldn’t have used the name personally but didn’t want to be negative so didn’t comment, but I think you’ve made the right choice

Carys is a beautiful name.

However the name is yours and your partners choice and no one else’s, you shouldn’t have felt pressured to change it.

Just a small point, but while the choice is OP and partner’s, the name isn’t. It’s her daughter’s. I’m far from a George and Sophie type name lover, but I am aware that a name is the first piece of information people give about themselves and I would want that to be positive (or at least neutral). If I were met with huge amounts of negativity, I’d seriously consider changing the name because I wouldn’t want that for my child.

OP, congratulations on your little girl, hopefully you can settle into her name now. I echo the above poster saying that I think you’ve made a good choice. Take care of yourself.

Carys Zibiah is lovely actually - Zibiah was your midwife wasn’t she? It’s a lovely story to have attached to your name, and if she wants something more unusual, she can switch later.

Nothing stopping you using zibby as a nn..

Kanaloa · 25/01/2022 01:25

Carys is a beautiful name. And if you love Zibiah it’s still there in the middle.

VioletBlanche · 25/01/2022 04:50

Honestly, I think you should change it to Zibiah Carys. It is the name you both like.

SquirrelG · 25/01/2022 05:39

You have chosen a lovely name, but I am disappointed on your behalf for the way your families reacted to your original choice. It never fails to amaze me how people think it their right to pass judgement on a name chosen for a baby. Enjoy your little girl.

BunnyRuddington · 25/01/2022 08:27

We have a Carys in our extended family and she's lovely.

You've chosen 2 lovely names and honoured your MW. I think you e made a great choice.

SeanChailleach · 25/01/2022 08:35

Ouch! When you have a baby, your family reveal surprising aspects of their characters, and you also learn about yourself.

CaffiSaliMali · 25/01/2022 08:54

I liked Zibiah - hadn't encountered it before but there are lots of biblical names so that's not unexpected.

Carys Zibiah is lovely too. Nice to have something Welsh in there as well Smile

Your families had no right to pass comment!

I know I will get similar as DH's family have told me on many occasions that my parents shouldn't have given me a Welsh name and I 'mustn't' make the same 'mistake' when I have DC.

You can't please everyone OP. The only people whose opinions matter are you and DH.

Lemonweightloss · 25/01/2022 09:17

It's a really beautiful name.

HacerSonarSusPasos · 25/01/2022 09:26

Carys is a much less controversial choice and more beautiful in my personal opinion. And much harder to mispronounce/misspell.

You can still call her Zebby as a nickname, that is pretty cute.

Congrats on your new addition!

CaffiSaliMali · 25/01/2022 13:27

Thinking on this some more, if anyone else says anything to you, tell them to fuck off.

My dad did that with his mother when she rang to complain about my Welsh name (my mother is a native Welsh speaker and I was named for her great grandmother).

Apparently granny never raised the issue again Grin

Quintilla · 25/01/2022 18:15

Congratulations! It’s a beautiful name and I’m sorry your family were arses Flowers Naming after the MW is a lovely and very sweet touch, I bet she’d be delighted if she knew.

schoolsoutforever · 25/01/2022 20:39

Zibiah is a great name (once people get used to the sound they’ll pipe down.). How fantastic would it be to be Zibby as a nn as a kid? But Carys is beautiful to me too. Now your lovely daughter has the best of both and can choose what she wants herself. Sounds like good planning to me.

Carys is beautiful, I saw your previous thread and didn't like Zibiah, but think it works as a middle name.
