choosing baby names is one of my favourite parts of pregnancy. Does anyone want to give their thoughts on my ideas so far? DS is called Ellis.

Boys:
Gordon
Robin
Rory

Girls:
Elspeth
Josephine
Erin
Roberta
Philippa

...Why are girls' names so much easier than boys'?!

I love the name Rory, but dislike the other 2 boys names. I especially dislike Gordon.
I like Elspeth, but not sure about the other girls names. The only one I strongly dislike is Roberta.

LittleGwyneth · 24/01/2022 17:45

Ellis and Elspeth is very sweet.

callycustard · 24/01/2022 17:46

Rory, Erin and Josephine (Josie) are my favourites. Congratulations :)

ofwarren · 24/01/2022 17:46

Rory and Josephine

Crunched · 24/01/2022 17:49

Not keen on Gordon. Robin and Rory go well with Ellis. Elspeth doesn't.

Bobbie (Roberta) and Pip (Phillipa) are lovely abbreviations. Josephine is a timeless classic.

floatinginmyhomie · 24/01/2022 18:21

Rory goes really well with Ellis

AuntieStella · 24/01/2022 18:24

Gordon - don't like thus, as I still hear 'is a moron'
Robin - OK
Rory - OK, the one I wouid choose of these three

Elspeth - lovely
Josephine - lovely
Erin - don't like
Roberta - dislike
Philippa - OK

RuthW · 24/01/2022 18:26

Sorry don't like any of your boy'snames. Rory and Robin you could get away with but I can't get away from 'Gordon is a moron' sorry.

Josephine is lovely. I he rest are nice.

StopForAMinute · 24/01/2022 18:33

Love Rory and Erin.

DemBonesDemBones · 24/01/2022 18:54

I only like Roberta from those names. Gordon...is that a serious suggestion?

Luredbyapomegranate · 24/01/2022 18:55

Rory and Philippa

Boys:
Gordon - nah, I think it's 15 years too early to revive
Robin - I prefer it for a girl, but OK as a nn for Robert
Rory - love it but it's super popular

Girls:
Elspeth - like
Josephine - it's OK
Erin - nah, dull and so many of them

Roberta - quite like it - and Robin and Bertie both lovely nns
Philippa - love it, also like Pippa as nn

Juanbablo · 24/01/2022 18:58

Rory and Josephine would be my picks. I'm biased though as I have a Rory.

Babydust13 · 24/01/2022 20:57

I love the name Erin and I think Gordon it due a come back.

Elspethelf · 26/01/2022 20:38

I love your boys names. Elspeth was the main character in my favorite YA series growing up and I always loved the name because I loved the character

wingsofabird · 27/01/2022 06:58

Ellis is a lovely name but your boys list is not good. There are so many trendy boys name beginning with "Ro--" in the top 100 they all merge into one for me. Rory has boomed in popularity (check the darkgreener website and look at graph). Ellis is lovely as it's familiar but not too common and doesn't blend in with loads of other names.
Austin
Tristan
Laurence
Caleb
Seth
Miles
Peter

JustForFunn · 27/01/2022 08:06

All good names but gosh Elspeth is so beautiful 😍😍

GreenWhiteViolet · 27/01/2022 08:36

Robin and Roberta are my favourites. I really don't like Elspeth. Rory makes me think of roaring lions, but I know it's a well-established name so that may be just me!

LooseyGoosey · 27/01/2022 15:04

Thanks all! So interesting to hear all your thoughts. I loooooove Elspeth, but I think Ellis and Elspeth might be a bit much... Roberta is a firm favourite but I want to use my grandmother's name, Elizabeth as a middle name and with our surname the initials would spell a word. Not a bad word, but still

Rory is by far my favourite of the boys names, but it is getting quite popular now and I really like the fact that Ellis is known but not popular so would prefer something at a similar level of popularity.

We'll see... plenty of time to keep thinking but do send ideas if you have any!

Rory and Josephine are sweet.

Gordon just reminds me of the loathsome Thomas the Tank Engine (screams silently)...

WhoppingBigBackside · 27/01/2022 16:29

Boys:
Gordon - a refreshing change
Robin - ok but R namen like Reuben and Roman seem to be everywhere
Rory - too many Rs

Girls:
Elspeth - nice
Josephine - will be shortened
Erin - don't like and would be to matchy matchy
Roberta - Bobbi is nice, but Roberta a bit too Robert with an a on tthe end
Philippa - like

Lemonweightloss · 27/01/2022 16:33

Love Rory. Do you like Quinn? That would go with Ellis. I know Rowan is popular but that wouldn't bother me. Goes nicely with Ellis. Good names.
Elspeth is gorgeous. My favourite girl's name is Elizabeth. Love Erin too. We have an Esme and whilst I'm not really fond of alliterative names, I would like Erin ( grandchildren BTW!). I love Nancy, Esther.

LooseyGoosey · 27/01/2022 16:58

Ooh, Quinn is a good thought! I'll run it by DH!
