Isadora

I'm not keen on Isadora or Esmé. Esmé is a boy's name that's now being used for girls and has several pronunciations and spellings. (Ezmy, Ezmay, Esmy, Esmay, Esmae, Esme, Esmé, Esmée...)

Isadora is just another Izzy.

Tal45 · 24/01/2022 11:23

Esme is much nicer IMO.

toastofthetown · 24/01/2022 11:26

Isadora by a long way. It’s an unusual name while being familiar, with no spelling or pronunciation issues. Esmé is so popular and and blends with all the other popular girls names at the moment which makes it a bit bland to me.

WorriedGiraffe · 24/01/2022 11:26

Esme. The other one reminds me of the theme turn to a programme when I was little, went something like ‘wizardora, we adore her’, also it’s a guarenteed Izzy nick name which I’m not a fan of

user1493494961 · 24/01/2022 11:42

I like both so can't choose.

BlueFlavour · 24/01/2022 11:44

100% Isadora.
Just a beautiful underused classic name.
Esme just doesn’t compare imho

I've never heard it used as a boys name?
RedCandyApple · 24/01/2022 12:07

Esme

Fl0w3ry · 24/01/2022 12:07

Isadora. I have never heard it before, but it sounds pretty. I know so many children called Esme, and I don’t really like the name at all.

StopForAMinute · 24/01/2022 12:14

Isadora

KirstenBlest · 24/01/2022 12:20

@dingledanglewoowoo. it's a French boy's name.

"Esmé began life as a masculine name, as in its original bearer, Esmé Stewart,1st Duke of Lennox, and Esmée, with the same pronunciation, was the feminine form. Today both spellings are used as feminine given names, along with Anglicizations including Esmay and Esmae."

Duxiejhrhrvjz · 24/01/2022 12:24

Isadora is nice!
I also like Theadora.
But then I like Dora as a nickname but not sure if that’s acceptable to you because of the obvious Explorer link. None of my DC are shy in the slightest so wouldn’t care about that.

Flutterflybutterby · 24/01/2022 14:52

Isadora. So many Esmes around

Blubells · 24/01/2022 15:40

Isadora

Esmé is unpronounceable for most English speakers!

crumpet · 24/01/2022 15:41

Lots of Esme’s around at the moment(with various spellings), in case that’s an issue for you. Isadora is a bit of a mouthful, and likely to be shortened to Dora

crumpet · 24/01/2022 15:42

Isadora Duncan possibly the most famous holder of the name - came to an unfortunate end though

Marcipex · 24/01/2022 15:54

Isadora, by a very long way.

Twizbe · 24/01/2022 16:08

I like them both so personally I'd wait and see which one she suits more.

threecupsofteaminimum · 24/01/2022 16:11

Isadora, Esme is really lovely but v popular.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 24/01/2022 16:12
