I know they aren't popular on here but what American feeling names do you like?

We lived in the US until recently and none of the little boys I knew, and I had a toddler in daycare so knew quite a lot, had what are often referred to as American names on here. Most had classic but often rather outdated names along the lines of John, Brian, Sam, Martin.

This is a good point. I went to college in the US and have been trying to think of guys I knew with 'typical' American names. It was all Mike, John/Johnny, Andrew/Andy, Matthew/Matt, Chris and maybe a Brendan to be a bit different

I know two little Graham’s. One in Seattle and one in Texas. I agree with the OP who said that most common American boys names in use are probably quite old fashioned here. I know a Philip, a Richard and a Seb too. All under 10.

If you’re looking for Chuck, Chad, Chip, Brad names, I don’t think they’re that commonly used now.

UserBot999 · 18/01/2022 16:02

A lot of names i usen't to get at all, like say Hudson, then later i realised it was a river!
But their history is their history, so using mayflower or wasp names, or presidents' names when you're not American could end up sounding random and insubstantial here when it would sound meaningful in the US

Tigger85 · 18/01/2022 16:02

I like Taylor, Corey and Casey some people have said Lucas and I just named my baby Lucas, I didn't think it was an American origin name though.

HobnobsChoice · 18/01/2022 16:24

Elijah and Caleb might be more used in the US but they are Hebrew/Biblical names originally. Lucas is variant of Luke.

The boys I know in the US age 10 and under are
River
Rowan
Jonah
Andrew
Ollie
Max
Ignacio (half Mexican half USian)
Pete
Declan
And I know a 14 year old Waylon

Classica · 18/01/2022 16:29

I went for names that gave me an American vibe. Not that many (any?) names listed here can claim to be American.

PrettyBluebells · 18/01/2022 16:40

I lived in the US for a lot of years, names were very similar to over here but a few years behind. Jeff, Ron and Greg were pretty popular, I knew none over here my age.

I'm trying to think of my friends children; Sebastian, Gabriel, Quinn, Spencer, Austin. You could always go with Randy, fnar fnar!
