Is Alexa usable now?

I just love it! I don’t know many people with Alexa devices tbh. Really like Alexis too but usually a boy’s name? Alexandra is a bit plain for me.

Also while I’m here, is Anna boring? In my head it’s cool and glam and not boring (I don’t know any under 30) but stats say it’s still pretty well used?

Unfortunately I think so. Anna is lovely, though.

Porfre · 12/01/2022 18:16

No

MarshaBradyo · 12/01/2022 18:17

Anna is lovely

But no I don’t think so re Alexa

But I say it a lot throughout the day

Br1ll1ant · 12/01/2022 18:18

Alexia? I wouldn’t use Alexa now.

Crunched · 12/01/2022 18:20

I like Anna, classic not boring.
The only (human) I know called Alexa is always referred to as Lexi so doesn't seem to have a problem.

toastofthetown · 12/01/2022 18:21

Usable is subjective. Alexa isn’t unusable in the way Adolf is unusable, though personally I wouldn’t use it. Same with too boring. One person’s dull as dishwater is another’s beautiful classic. While I like Anna (though I prefer Anya), I wouldn’t be surprised to hear it called dull.

I like Alexa but There was a radio programme recently about it & its not something I would name a DD.

A mother who’s daughter was called Alexa-before the device was launched-was heartbroken because her daughter suffers such bullying, even by grown men!
I read an article about how one girl had a bloke command ‘Alexa, dance’ at her daughter & another said a waitress asked her DD’s names & when she said it was Alexa the waitress responded with ‘what a shame’!
Seemingly it does cause the poor girls problems.

Alexa is very active in this house, it’s such a habit to ask her everything I even try to talk to her in the car. I swear I will be doddering around in my nursing home calling for Alexa!

Comedycook · 12/01/2022 18:22

I love Anna, so elegant and feminine without being frilly.

SummerHouse · 12/01/2022 18:24

You could NN Alex / Lexi / Lex. I think I would be concerned about peers (and everyone really) doing endless tedious jokes. Also she might be constantly battling a non person to answer any question that anyone puts to her if there is an Alexa in the home.

But with NN this would not be such an issue.

SummaLuvin · 12/01/2022 18:25

I guess it's a matter of preference. Henry Hoovers don't stop people calling their children Henry. By the time your Alexa would be in school it's another 4/5 years away, and I do feel the moment is passing for the Amazon device already - however they may well bring out a new iteration which sparks popularity again.

Alexa could be used as a nn for Alexandra, plus there are many other nn - Alex, Lex, Lexie, Andy, Sandy, Ally...

I find Anna a little dull and much prefer Alexandra or Anya, but that's the beauty of names they bring about different feelings in everyone.

Thanks all!

Certainly, here in the States the Alexa gadget is pretty universal and I would shy away from inflicting the name on my daughter.

Maybe Alexis and call her Alex ? Even that might make the darn machine "wake up" and embarrass you !

Luredbyapomegranate · 12/01/2022 20:32

No, sadly.

But Anna is nice, and there is Alexandra

Nyxxie · 12/01/2022 21:22

I love the name Alexis for a girl :) Also like Alexa but probably wouldn't use it now.

Kitkat151 · 12/01/2022 21:25

Alexa can no longer be used for the foreseeable

Forgetaboutme · 12/01/2022 21:29

I wouldnt use Alexa.

Anna is lovely. Maybe had a spike recently due to Frozen but i don't personally know any young kids with the name. It's definitely not boring.

OtiMama · 12/01/2022 22:38

My name is Alexa. I really don't care about the device, nor do I own one! People do make jokes about it but how long will it be around and called Alexa.

I have always loved my name, it isn't short for anything and I hardly meet anyone with it, probably even less now. My family call me Lexi as a NN. I say if you love it, go for it. People will get bored of making comments soon!

YankeeDad · 12/01/2022 23:12

You could always call her Siri instead? Such a lovely name!

ISeeTheLight · 12/01/2022 23:15

DD has a child in her class named Alexa, born before the amazon device. Primary school aged. Her mum really regrets the name; it's a pain apparently.

OldWivesTale · 12/01/2022 23:21

No to Alexa. Anna is beautiful.

sageandbasil · 12/01/2022 23:40

I only know female Alexis. I do think Anna is very boring sorry. Go for Alexis!

KloppsTeeth · 12/01/2022 23:52

Do not use Alexa, it is far too ubiquitous.

Anna is a classic name, and I have only ever know lovely people with that name.

RaoulDufysCat · 12/01/2022 23:53

Anna is great. Alexa and Alexis are both awful regardless of other issues.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 13/01/2022 01:27

Yes, Alexa is a nice name but that pesky device has made it a bit of a burden now I'd imagine.

Anna is desperately dull.

I'd keep looking.
