DD due in May is most likely going to be called Elizabeth. What are your favourite diminutives or shortened forms for it? Thanks

I have a sister of that name and I call her by her full name and always have. Some of her friends call her LIz

My mum is also Elizabeth but gets called Elsie

toastofthetown · 12/01/2022 15:20

If I had an Elisabeth, I'd use Elsa as a diminutive.

angel0071987 · 12/01/2022 15:23

Ours is Lizzie and is 8weeks old :)

Snowiscold · 12/01/2022 15:54

Lisbeth.
Betty
Betsy

SummaLuvin · 12/01/2022 15:54

I like Lissy best, but not sure that works with the Elizabeth spelling, which is my preferred one and the one you give. As I wouldn’t use Elizabeth anyway I haven’t thought too deeply on it.

Libby for me!

Alysskea · 12/01/2022 16:01

Love Elizabeth! I like Beth.

quarantandrums · 12/01/2022 16:46

Elizabeth at the nursery I work in shortens it to Lizzie.

Synchrony · 12/01/2022 17:04

Betty, Bessie and Lizzie.

Words · 12/01/2022 17:06

No diminutives. The full thing is pretty fabulous.

3ormoredogs · 12/01/2022 18:12

Elsa for me! I would have loved it for DD but wasn’t brave enough.

Neurodiversitydoctor · 12/01/2022 18:14

Surprised no one said Eliza that's my favourite.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 12/01/2022 18:17

Libby

moonlight1705 · 12/01/2022 18:20

Lizzie for us, she was named after my mum who died a month before she was born. My mum went by Liz

Warmduscher · 12/01/2022 18:23

“Elsa”?

Why give your child a fabulous name and then shorten it to a name from one of the most popular Disney films ever?

DameAlyson · 12/01/2022 18:25

Wait until she's old enough to choose for herself. She might actually like to be known as Elizabeth.

You must not be aware, but the name Elsa actually predates the film Frozen. Some people also think the name Elsa is fabulous. Hope this helps Smile
AnGofsMum · 12/01/2022 18:53

DS was going to be Elizabeth if he was a girl. Love it and it was my grandmother’s name. We were torn between Elsie, Libby and Beth. Think he would have been Elsie.

MysteriousMonkey · 12/01/2022 18:58

Betsy and Betty
Then Beth
Bits
I think an actress uses Busy, that's cute

Not so keen on Liz or Lizzie but I do like Ellie, or Elsie

LavenderRosemary · 12/01/2022 19:03

Libby

UserBot989 · 12/01/2022 19:04

Eliza, Libby or Beth.

Not a fan of Betty or Betsy though.

Lilyminilli · 12/01/2022 19:05

I have an Elizabeth and she goes by Elizabeth. I figured she can work out if she wants to shorten it when she’s older rather than choose one for her.

Deisogn · 12/01/2022 19:11

Eliza or Ellie

TheSpiral · 12/01/2022 19:13

Libby by a country mile
Then Betsy or Bess

MoonGeek · 12/01/2022 19:13

I love Elizabeth, but also Lizzie. Beautiful name.
