Sylvie or Robyn

DP and I have whittled it down to two names for our little girl due in March. Which name do you prefer? I keep flitting between the two... DP is slightly more in the Robyn camp, but loves both. I THINK I'm slightly more in the Sylvie camp, but that might just be because I'm flitting that way today. I'm hoping she'll just come out and look like one of them!

DDs name is Maggie.. I think Robyn goes slightly better as they don't end with the same sound, but I think Maggie and Sylvie is OK too.

I really like both of these names, lovely choices.
I do prefer the Robin spelling though for both boys and girls, the Y spelling just looks a bit 70’s to me. I think both sound nice with your daughters name. Good luck.

Robyn for sure. Really not fond of Sylvie, but it is incredibly popular on MN.

Ceramide · 11/01/2022 13:43

Robyn

Snowiscold · 11/01/2022 13:50

I’m not keen on either, so hard for me to judge. Sylvie is too fey and Robyn just looks misspelled, as well as dated. I like Maggie a lot, though.

Robyn

Another vote for Robyn

MrsMadderRose · 11/01/2022 13:56

I like them both, but I once knew a lovely Sylvie so I'd pick that.

ellenpartridge · 11/01/2022 14:05

Robyn

PattyPan · 11/01/2022 14:13

Definitely Sylvie! Robyn is a bit tacky to me, sorry.

generallyfailing · 11/01/2022 14:16

Love Sylvia

LaBellina · 11/01/2022 14:17

Robyn.

I find Sylvie tacky but that’s because the name reminds me of someone with that name who is incredibly tacky and shallows

generallyfailing · 11/01/2022 14:17

Sorry - Sylvie! (darn autocorrect)

Wellington17 · 11/01/2022 15:17

Thanks everyone! Seems to be pretty evenly split at the minute.

On Robyn, what are peoples thoughts on Robyn/Robin? Can't quite decide which I prefer! Robyn is the default as the more usual feminine spelling (in the UK at least), but Robin is quite sweet for its simplicity.

Definitely Sylvie, it’s very chic. Smile

Jemimapuddleduk · 11/01/2022 15:54

Absolutely love both your choices so it’s very hard to choose. I would defo go with Robin spelling though.

KisstheTeapot14 · 11/01/2022 15:58

I like both - they are pretty names - but Robin with an I is great.

PoodleKaboodle · 11/01/2022 15:59

I love Robyn! It’s Rihanna’s real name and she’s a sassy chick so that wins it for me.
I’d definitely spell it with a Y though as the boys I know spell it with an I and it seems too masculine to me.

MargosKaftan · 11/01/2022 16:01

I like both, but don't like the idea of a rhyming sibling set of names, so in the Robyn camp. But if you aren't 100% sold on both, then perhaps start looking for a 3rd option ?

Stormwhale · 11/01/2022 16:05

Sylvie is gorgeous. Not keen on Robyn.

Robyn -with that spelling rather than Robin, as I’ve only known boys/men with that spelling.

wizzler · 11/01/2022 17:26

Robyn.. love it

wingsofabird · 11/01/2022 17:33

Sylvie is lovely
Robyn in isolation isn't that overused but I get a bit bored of all the Rory, Roman, Reuben , Ronnie etc names. Those Ro.. names are all top 100 and still rising fast. All really different names , I accept that, but when you have a few in a class I get really confused and they blend together. So I think Robyn feels much less special than Maggie and Sylvie

Tal45 · 11/01/2022 17:36

Sylvie is much prettier and more sophisticated IMO

changingstages · 11/01/2022 17:42

I love Robin but don't really like Robyn. Sylvie is awful.
