Help us decide our sons middle names

If our baby due in Spring is a boy we have decided to call him Evan.

My DP grew up in Wales so we like the nod to that even though I do not believe Evan is a traditional Welsh name and my DP
Isn't technically Welsh. We both also have English/Italian heritage.

We quite like the idea of maybe honouring our grandfathers as middle name spots. I was very close to my Italian grandfather (Nonno) who was called Lorenzo. I'm not overly keen on Laurence and my Nonno used the alternative spelling Lawrence when he moved to the UK, but I'm even less keen on that.

My DP's grandfather was called Walter which is a name I've always liked (I appreciate it gets mixed reactions) and my great uncle shared this name. Walter isn't a must as DP wasn't super close to his grandfather (he was very close to his nan) but does like the name and thinks it would be nice to honour both out grandfathers.

Our surname is three syllables starting with an "H" and ending in "son".

We would like to use two middle names.

So what combination do you think sounds best:

  • Evan Lorenzo Walter
  • Evan Walter Lorenzo

What do you think, generally?

Other names we both like (but may want to keep back for possible second son one day) include; Hugh, Louis, Laurie

Any other suggestions that would flow nicely welcomed!

Thanks everyone.

Evan Lorenzo Walter sounds cool to me, and I love the family connection.

I like the Evan Walter Lorenzo order. The honours are lovely and absolutely fine to keep as is - but you mentioning anglicised versions of Lorenzo made me think you aren’t that keen on it? Have I got the wrong end of the stick? Just as you also mentioned that you like Laurie, and I was thinking that could be the honour for Lorenzo. Evan Walter Laurie.

Evan Lorenzo Walter sounds lovely

Evan Lorenzo Walter - sounds nice and the alphabetical order is pleasing

I like Evan Lorenzo Walter - it has a nice flow to it!

Evan Walter Lorenzo sounds good.

@Edenember oh not at all. We both really like Lorenzo. I was just preempting a responses along the lines of "why not use Lawrence/Laurence instead".

I really like Laurie but DP, having grown up in Wales, sees it as more of a girls name. Annoyingly if I had a second son Id really like to use "Hugh" and "Laurie" but probably couldn't use both due to the actor!

Evan Walter Lorenzo

My son's middle name is Laurence which is a nod to my maiden name. Laurie is usually short for Laurence, so I'm interested you list it separately. I'd go for Lorenzo as it was your grandfather's actual name and a clearer link to your Italian heritage. I think Evan Lorenzo Walter sounds great!

Both ways round are good - I'd go for Walter Lorenzo. The only one I'm not keen on is Evan! - but they all sound fine together.

I'd go for Hugh (or Huw to be Welsh) - Hugh Lorenzo Walter then sounds better.
