I told my MIL my favourite name and she looked like she had seen a ghost.
Please tell me my name is not awful

Ha! Grin

I quite like it but it's quite a serious Catholic name so not going to be everyone's cup of tea.

Never discuss names with mothers or MILs beforehand. It's not good for their nerves.

HomeCountiesMum · 09/01/2022 14:40

Sorry but I agree with your MIL

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 09/01/2022 14:40

You could always throw some diversionary shockers out there, like Cecil or Percy, and that might make her warm to Francis.

SummerLovin2022 · 09/01/2022 14:43

I love the name Francis and also Frances for a girl. I learned not to tell anybody my names when I was pregnant.

Skeumorph · 09/01/2022 14:46

One of my most disliked names, sorry! Manages to be prissy and slightly weird at the same time. Fran is awful for a boy. Just not a nice name in any way!

Strawberry0909 · 09/01/2022 14:53

I don't dislike it, we've used for ds2 middle name

Toddlerteaplease · 09/01/2022 14:54

I love it. It's my sisters middle name. And I chose it as my confirmation name.

ParkheadParadise · 09/01/2022 14:56

I like it 💚 💚

GrimDamnFanjo · 09/01/2022 14:59

I like it. Easy to shorten to Frank or Fran.

ISmellBurnings · 09/01/2022 15:29

Sorry but I really dislike it, always have done. Just really prim and proper.

MissyB1 · 09/01/2022 15:31

I love it, but I'm from a big Irish Catholic family.

Luredbyapomegranate · 09/01/2022 15:39

I much prefer it for a girl TBH

But it's nice enough.

toastofthetown · 09/01/2022 16:12

I love Francis. Frank is a charming nickname. Agree with other posters though, that I'd stop telling other people tour plans for baby names. People are much less likely to make nasty comments when you present the name attached to your baby.

Justkeeppedaling · 09/01/2022 16:14

I like it too.

Rrrob · 09/01/2022 16:16

Don’t like it, sorry!

Redact · 09/01/2022 17:12

I like it!

Derrymum123 · 09/01/2022 17:20

Like it. Fran, Frankie, Frank. What's not to like?

OneFootintheRave · 09/01/2022 17:22

LOVE it. Frank for short.

DramaAlpaca · 09/01/2022 17:24

I like it, but it's strictly middle name territory for me because I can't stand any of the diminutives. I feel the same way about Patrick.

sixtysomethinggran · 09/01/2022 17:33

This is my grandsons name and I love it. Was unsure initially but now really love it.

HoldingTheDoor · 09/01/2022 17:41

Like it. Fran, Frankie, Frank. What's not to like?

Everything.

Francis is wet and horrible. Fran is awful. Frank/Frankie are some of the ugliest names ever.

stairgates · 09/01/2022 17:57

I wanted it for our last but DH said no, so yes from me :)

TheCreamCaker · 09/01/2022 18:01

It would probably get shortened to Frankie, which I think sounds better.

PrivateParty · 13/01/2022 15:05

I don't like it. Never have. Just too old, posh and religious.

MrsHunch · 13/01/2022 15:31

Love it. It's one of my favourite names, though DH vetoed because I vetoed his hideous suggestion of Blake Hmm
