Thoughts on this name for a baby boy? What do you think of when you hear the name Dominic?

I like it. Assume you don’t mind them being called Dom for short. Or maybe Nick/Nicky

CMhater · 07/01/2022 10:45

It's not to my taste.
I think 'Dom' is awful.

Oneearringlost · 07/01/2022 10:47

Lovely, I really like it.
It strikes me as a strong name. I also like Julius, Gabriel, Louis
My nephew is Dominic, has never become Dom.

interest12 · 07/01/2022 11:54

I like it, or Dominico.
Nn Nic or Nico

blitzen · 07/01/2022 11:55

Really like it!

FuggyPidding · 07/01/2022 11:56

I like it!

Prefer Dom to Nic as a nickname but would try to stick with the just Dominic.

toastofthetown · 07/01/2022 12:08

It's fine. Not exactly thrilling, but not objectively bad either. Brings to mind a boy at school who pushed me off a slide, but that's a rather niche reference.

ImNotWhoYouThinkIam · 07/01/2022 12:10

It makes me think of my very lovely DS1. And he's never called Dom.

WarmForDecember · 07/01/2022 12:16

I really like it but DD always complained about a Dominic at her nursery so that puts me off!

Paris14eme · 07/01/2022 12:27

Love that name!

HerculesMulligan · 07/01/2022 12:28

I really like it. I've only ever known lovely Dominics. I think it's quite a Catholic name, IME.

Paris14eme · 07/01/2022 12:28

Love Gabriel too btw!

emmathedilemma · 07/01/2022 12:59

ooh no, dated and not in a trendy way!

KellyABC · 07/01/2022 13:12

It just makes me think of Dominic Cummings. But that should pass in time.

RedCandyApple · 07/01/2022 13:33

This is a name I’ve always hated, hate the Dom sound

itwasntaparty · 07/01/2022 13:48

Dominique sounds so much nicer but if you're not french...

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 07/01/2022 13:53

I like it. My dd goes to school with twins called Aoife and Dominic.

feedthepeony · 07/01/2022 15:12

Noooooo

PlainJane1000 · 07/01/2022 15:27

I love it and it was on our shortlist for DS1 but hate the nn Dom (in my head the old advert for domestos bleach "big bad Dom" plays!) which was a deciding factor against it. It's interesting reading pp's saying ones they have/know don't get shortened. I imagine my MIL would instantly shorten it!
Also the recent Dominic's in parliament are not great namesakes if you are in the UK at the moment.

People have tried to shorten it a couple of times. I (and then DS as he got older) told them he was Dominic not Dom and they didn't shorten it again.
GreenLunchBox · 07/01/2022 15:46

Love it

resm · 08/01/2022 02:45

Love the name Dominic and was on my list for second son.

Heh1991 · 08/01/2022 03:19

I really like it would be one of my choices too! I like that it’s well known enough that it wouldn’t raise an eyebrow and fairly easy to spell but that it’s unusual enough that there probably won’t be any others in his class! I also really like Dom as nickname- go for it!

FixItUpChappie · 08/01/2022 03:25

I LOVE this name. If we would have had another boy it would have been a real contender

Luredbyapomegranate · 08/01/2022 19:34

Cummings right now.. 🧟‍♂️

But it’s a nice name.
