Me and DH love the name Tovie for our little girl due soon, I've not heard of anybody with this name but we saw it online on a forum and loved it...

Pronounced like Toe-Vee ... There's also the name Tove sounding like "Stove"

General opinions on Tovie for a little girl?

Or am I going mad Grin

Thanks

I had a friend called Tove which I loved. She was Danish and pronounced it Tov-uh. Tovie sounds like a nickname for that. I like it though.

shreddednips · 05/01/2022 23:21

I've never heard of Tovie, only Tove, which is lovely. I do like the sound of Tovie though, although if it were me I would go with Tove and have Tovie as a nickname.

shreddednips · 05/01/2022 23:24

Now I've typed the name Tovie a few times, it's really grown on me 😁

Marimaur · 05/01/2022 23:32

Call her Tove, with Tovie as a nn

sageandbasil · 05/01/2022 23:45

I love this name. Not heard it before but it's lovely. I think I prefer tove to tovie but both lovely

sageandbasil · 05/01/2022 23:46

Agree with PPs call her Tove with Tovie as a NN

OnaBegonia · 06/01/2022 00:12

Like stovies? hope you don't live in Scotland 🤣

JustMaggie · 06/01/2022 00:24

I've met a Tova, but I love the name Tovie.

badg3r · 06/01/2022 00:26

The name Tove is pronounced Tov-uh usually, I would go with that and use Tovie as a nickname.

BunnyRuddington · 06/01/2022 07:39

I like Tove, pronounced as badg3r says Smile

Luredbyapomegranate · 06/01/2022 08:11

Tove is said Tov-uh as PPs say

I'd use that, and Tovie as a nn - it's sweet but it really is a nn, not a name.

Luredbyapomegranate · 06/01/2022 08:11

... and yes I did think Stovies! But fine as a nn

londongirl2701 · 06/01/2022 08:16

Thank you all much appreciated :)

Not from Scotland so not sure what stovies is haha!

I dont like Tovie personally and Tove as said above is not pronounced like stove.

SnowdropFox · 06/01/2022 10:33

I like it too. Do you know what it means?

londongirl2701 · 06/01/2022 10:57

Hi,

I know Tovie isn't pronounced the same as Tove - I just like the sound of Tovie but I'd never heard of the name before but I had heard of Tove before which I also quite like...

The meaning of Tovie according to online is "my good, goodness of" and apparently that is only for a Boy - haven't found much in regards to a girl Tovie so far!

Thanks again!!

I'd also probably assume Tovie was a nn for Tove, which is more widely known. I do personally prefer Tove (nn Tovie if wanted) but Tovie as a given name is okay - I've certainly heard far worse and imo it would blend in with all the Evie's, Ivy's etc in sound, so she wouldn't stand out that much from her peers (if that matters).

timoteigirl · 06/01/2022 22:06

I think difficult to know how to pronounce. I would pronounce Tove like in Tove Jansson so the Swedish way www.babynamespedia.com/pronounce/Tove

finallychangedmyusername · 06/01/2022 22:11

Would Octavia, nicknamed Tavie, be an option for you?

HyggeTygge · 06/01/2022 22:14

Tove Lo is another Swedish singer- songwriter. I like it.
