There both lovely names, but I know of 4 baby girls called lily-may born in the last year, it's very popular, probably the only reason I wouldn't have the names. But both are very nice x

silverpinecones · 02/01/2022 20:09

As one name (first and middle) or for 2 girls?

Love it as I have a Lily May (May is her middle name, not hyphenated, and has a special significance to me/my family) but people on here seem to think it's too common or unoriginal. However I don't care as I am the one who has to say it millions of time each day! Smile

silverpinecones · 02/01/2022 20:11

Plus for what it's worth, even though it's a top 10 name we have only come across 1 other similar aged Lily so far and we made it til 3 1/2. The other one isn't a May!

DukkaTheHallsWithBoughsOfHolly · 02/01/2022 20:14

Together or separate names that you like? Lilly with May as a middle name or hyphenated is hugely overused. May is just a filler middle name and will date like Louise and Jane. I work with kids and have met loads of Lily Mays.

ExpectingLady93 · 02/01/2022 20:22

Yeah Lily-May was one choice for us actually! I preferred them both separate definitely

@silverpinecones either Lily or May for a first name. The middle name would be Hazel. Xx

They’re fine. A dime a dozen. But if popularity didn’t bother you, go for it.

There are so many lovely girls’ names out there.

ExpectingLady93 · 02/01/2022 20:24

Thank you @RussiasGreatestLoveMachine popularity does bother me a bit hence why I am leaning more towards May. I can't say I've heard of a May before x

Lily is so popular and has been for such a long time it's totally oversaturated and bland. I see Lily-May as a bit ten years ago, along with the hyphenated name trend. May is refreshing as a first name.

ExpectingLady93 · 02/01/2022 20:39

Thanks @toastofthetown leaning towards May more

Much prefer May, Lily Is a bit wet.

May Lillian?

ExpectingLady93 · 02/01/2022 21:04

@Luredbyapomegranate I know what you mean!

Both short, simple, pretty names. I like them. Also love Hazel. I think Lily Hazel flows better than May Hazel. I don't think Lily is wet at all!

Twinkleylight · 02/01/2022 21:38

I'd swap it to Hazel Lily or Hazel May as it's less popular. There are over 10 girls in my dd's various friendship circles who are either Lily or May.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 02/01/2022 21:38

I love Hazel May.

Twinkleylight · 02/01/2022 21:39

Alternatives to Lily are Lillian or Lilliana.

ExpectingLady93 · 02/01/2022 21:44

Thanks all, Hazel is my sister's name hence the middle name choice! I do love the name Hazel also.

Lily and May are lovely classic floral names. Would be nice for sisters but perhaps a bit much as a first/middle pairing. Of the two, I prefer May - it's very underused as a first name and has a subtle elegance imo.

I like them both separately. Lily-May is incredibly overdone in my opinion. I once taught a class with 4 of them! I prefer May but I think Lily goes better with Hazel. Love Hazel btw.

SummerLew · 02/01/2022 22:17

Both lovely

TippledPink · 02/01/2022 22:18

Lily very popular- May I don't hear as a first name but seems to be every other girls middle name! Love Hazel but can see why you don't want it as a first name if it is your sisters name.

SleighbellsZ · 02/01/2022 22:19

Lily is over done for me.
I love May, I know a newborn called this spelt Mae
