Micah for a boy?

Eggsandavo · 30/12/2021 17:55

Pregnant with our third boy... surname is Njie (west African) and my husband would like something Muslim (though not 100% essential if it's a perfect name).

I like Micah but my other kids (Logan 14 and Zayne 3) don't like it, they think it's a girls name.

What are the opinions on this? Any other suggestions? Baby is mixed race if that makes a difference.

TIA! Smile

Love it! ❤

I'm a big man City fan though (Micah richards)

stickygotstuck · 30/12/2021 18:00

Beautiful!

TruffleShuffles · 30/12/2021 18:03

I love it and like another pp it reminds me of Micah Richards who is lovely, well unless you’re a Man Utd fan.

I've only ever seen it used for a boy.

greyspottedgoose · 30/12/2021 18:07

Is it pronounced my-cah or me-cah

Ohyesiam · 30/12/2021 18:11

Put your sons straight and use it, it’s a gorgeous name and goes with your surname

FelicityPike · 30/12/2021 18:15

Definitely a boys name, from the bible, but as with all religions it can cross over?

Kite22 · 30/12/2021 18:16

I quite like it.
Why not just tell your sons they are wrong ?

Kitkat151 · 30/12/2021 18:18

Only seen it used as a girls name

LavenderRosemary · 30/12/2021 18:25

I like the name but have only heard it used for a girl.

Stiffcondomhat · 30/12/2021 18:28

I also love Isiah.

TrashyPanda · 30/12/2021 18:36

Lovely name and definitely male

It goes well with your surname too

Roselilly36 · 30/12/2021 18:40

I think it’s a lovely name, and will fit well with your other children’s names.

Riapia · 30/12/2021 19:32

Is it pronounced mee-sha, if so yes go for it.

GoodMorningMillicent · 30/12/2021 19:40

Mica is a girls name, pronounced Meesh-a.

Micah is a biblical boys name, pronounced Mike-a. It’s lovely, really like it.

17caterpillars1mouse · 30/12/2021 19:46

I love it, it's a really handsome name. I've only heard it as a boys name and tbh I wouldn't not choose a name on the opinion of a teenager and a toddler

DramaAlpaca · 30/12/2021 19:49

It's a biblical male name pronounced MY-kah. Go for it, it's nice. It's nothing to do with your boys what you call their brother.

DotDotDotDotDot · 30/12/2021 20:06

I think it’s a lovely boys name - assuming the Mike-ah pronunciation.
I think Reuben, Ezra, Asher and Caleb have a similar feel.

PonDeReplay · 30/12/2021 20:09

Lovely name! Only ever heard it used for a boy.

We have also had the my-cah me-cah debate and as pp mentioned, Micah Richards is pronounced as "me".

Agree but at the same time, I want them to bond and be happy with it

I've never heard of it being pronounced anything other than MY-kah. I'm certain that's the traditional pronunciation.

I've never heard of Micah Richards so can't comment. The pronunciation MEE-kah makes it sound more feminine to me though.

nocoolnamesleft · 30/12/2021 20:57

I've only ever come across pronounced as My-kah, so partly depends how irritated you'd be by having to correct people.
