Brooke - I like this
Claire - maybe a bit dated but fairly classic
Piper - no too American
Adelyn - no too American
Riley - no too American
Peyton - no too American
Ellie - not as a stand alone name- Elinor/Eleanor yes
Elliana - prefer Eliana, extra L unnecessary
Macey/Macy - no too American
Bailey - no too American
Braelynn - no too American, HATE this one
Ava - lovely but v popular
Amelia - lovely but v popular
Delilah - nice but a bit cutesy for me
Alyssa - fine
Madison - no too American

Now you’re going to tell us you are American Grin

Princessbelle7 · 25/12/2021 13:48

But the name Madison has “son” in it as well and it’s almost always a girl’s name.

If you go for Elliana you always have the option of nicknaming her Ellie later if you choose. So that's a bonus.

MerryChristmasToYou · 25/12/2021 14:29

Madison is a surname and means Matthew's son.
The name started being used asb a girl's name when the mermaid in Splash! chose the name after seeing a Madison Avenue street sign.

Tifalockhart · 25/12/2021 14:41

Riley is not a girl’s name. From your list I think Alyssa is really nice.

DappledThings · 25/12/2021 16:09

Doesn't make it any less ridiculous

mathanxiety · 27/12/2021 21:58

Which names from my list are dated?

@Princessbelle7 - these are the dated names:
Brooke
Claire
Piper
Adelyn
Riley
Peyton
Ellie
Elliana
Macey/Macy
Bailey
Braelynn
Alyssa
Madison

mathanxiety · 28/12/2021 04:35

My DD1 and DS were in high school with girls who had these names back in the early 2000s, so born between 1989 and 1993.

Stormbraver99 · 28/12/2021 10:24

My favourites are Claire, Elliana and Delilah.
I like Amelia, but know far too many.

fruitbrewhaha · 28/12/2021 10:41

They do sound like characters from Charmed or another teen US drama from the 90's.

It's always going to be tricky if you want something unusual, by definition the majority of people won't like it. If you both like a name go for it.

Ikeameatballs · 28/12/2021 10:47

From your original list I like Macy and Delilah.

Claire, Peyton, Piper, Brooke, Amelia and Ava are all ok.

I really dislike the others.

scandikate · 28/12/2021 10:49

My dd4's best friend is called Delilah and I always think how sweet it is so I say go with that.

Rainbowqueeen · 28/12/2021 10:51

Out of the names you have narrowed it down to I like Alyssa the best.

Alyssa Claire is a lovely name.

mishmased · 28/12/2021 11:03

For those saying Elliana is fussy, complicated or a stretched form of Ellie, it is not. It is a name on its own. It is Hebrew and is spelt ELIANA (meaning my God has answered) ELI is god in Hebrew.
From your list I like:
Ava
Alyssa
Delilah (wouldn't choose it because of the biblical story but that's me. Still lovely).
Eliana (I think you would need a strong sounding middle name with it).

Is Emersyn the female of Emerson?

mintich · 28/12/2021 11:10

I only like Brooke and Delilah out of that list. I'm much prefer Brooke, it's a lovely name

MerryChristmasToYou · 28/12/2021 13:20

@mishmased, It's El that means God not Eli

Elliana will be yet another Ellie, and is Eliana Ellie-Ah-na, El-yanna, Elllie-Anna or something else?

Princessbelle7 · 28/12/2021 13:27

Yes Emersyn is a female version of Emerson.

OP posts:
mishmased · 28/12/2021 13:28

@MerryChristmasToYou Eli means my God. I missed the 'my' in my post.

mishmased · 28/12/2021 13:36

@Princessbelle7 if you like a name go with it. We cannot all name our babies'timeless' names likes Charlotte, William, Atticus, Catherine or whatever is deemed timeless or will not date. Now you did ask for people's opinions tho 😃

mygenericusername · 28/12/2021 13:40

Brooke - ok
Claire - pretty
Piper - will forever be spelling her name
Adelyn - love
Riley - overused
Peyton - meh
Ellie - as a nickname
Elliana - pronounced?
Macey/Macy - no
Bailey - dogs name
Braelynn - nope
Ava - overused
Amelia - overused
Delilah - ok
Alyssa - meh
Madison - no

Princessbelle7 · 28/12/2021 13:46

Wow I didn’t realise so many of my names are dated! I only thought it was Claire, Brooke, Bailey, Alyssa, Madison and maybe Macy and Delilah. I thought the others were more modern especially Braelynn. We still aren’t too sure but she will either be named:

Madison (nn Maddie)
Adelyn, I think this looks more modern than Adeline and Adeline just seems “Ada-line” to me (nn Addie which I’ve always loved)
Piper
Elliana, I prefer this spelling with 2 ns, Eliana looks odd in my opinion with 1 n. (nn Ellie)
Macy
Braelynn, I really love this name and I think it’s very pretty and underused, I prefer spelling it Braelynn over Braelyn (nn brae)
Alyssa
Peyton
Or just Ellie on it’s own
