Isn't Emerson a boys name? It certainly sounds like one Confused

Princessbelle7 · 24/12/2021 10:46

I’m in England but I seem to like a lot of American names. I don’t really like many British ones, and I love these names on the list.

It’s used for both but I guess it’s more common for boys in the UK. I think spelling it Emersyn makes it more feminine and more obvious that she’s a girl. I also prefer that spelling.

Brooke - 1980s American
Claire - plain but nice
Piper - tAmerican
Adelyn - American
Riley - American
Peyton - American
Ellie - plain but nice
Elliana -,not sure how to pronounce but ok
Macey/Macy - Prefer Maisie
Bailey - American and a boys name imo
Braelynn - this is a horrible name
Ava - love this one
Amelia - love this one
Delilah - I like it but negative association (biblical)
Alyssa - ok but I prefer Alice/Alicia
Madison - American and 1980s

Luzina · 24/12/2021 10:59

American names are often seen negatively in the UK I think. But you know what you want, you should call your baby a name you love. Good luck

I really like Macy and quite like Brooke! I'm neutral on most of the others. Afraid I'm really not a fan of Braelynn, Bailey and especially Peyton. Claire is very different from the others on your list and I sort of like it for its rarity value, sounds quite fresh now it hasn't been used in a while. Do you like Clara?

GoodnightGrandma · 24/12/2021 14:37

I like Piper, but I don’t see it as an adult name.
I like Mabel at the moment.

Princessbelle7 · 24/12/2021 14:43

I like Clara but I prefer Claire.

Me and my husband have now narrowed it down to Piper, Bailey, Alyssa, Braelynn (OH really wants to name dd this and I do too but there are others I like) Elliana, Ellie, Adelyn, and Madison. We may use Claire as a middle name.

WhoppingBigBackside · 24/12/2021 14:57

If you both really like Braelynn use it. Nobody else likes it, but she's nobody else's baby

Use Claire as a middle name so that she can use that if she wishes a less unpleasant name

mathanxiety · 24/12/2021 22:09

It's been suggested that many of these names are 'American'.

Some of them indeed are American in style. But they are very, very dated.

These days, Americans are giving both boys and girls surnamey names.

I know girls named Bennett, Campbell, Cameron, Bellamy, Merrick, Merritt, Aniston, Arden, Callahan, Collins, Linden, Madigan, Havilland, Holliday, Hollis, Kennedy, Cassidy, Reese, Sheridan.

Hohofortherobbers · 24/12/2021 22:20

Have you considered Clara?

Princessbelle7 · 24/12/2021 22:36

Which names from my list are dated?

OP posts:
dustandfluf · 24/12/2021 22:46

Delilah

dustandfluf · 24/12/2021 22:48

Oh please do not call your child Braelynn. It's awful!

MousesBack · 24/12/2021 22:56

@Princessbelle7

I’m in England but I seem to like a lot of American names. I don’t really like many British ones, and I love these names on the list.
I was going to ask this. I have US friends with kids called Peyton and Claire, neither of which I've heard used here (well, Claire not since the 1970s, but I'm assured it's pretty common in the States)
NameChange2PostThis · 24/12/2021 22:59

Elliana - Love it and you can use Ellie as nn as well
Adelyn is nice but Adeline is lovely

Not so keen on the others

cafedesreves · 24/12/2021 23:04

I like Eliana if you have any Italian links? Braelynn really not my thing. The Brae sound is off-putting... sounds like bray as in donkey.

interest12 · 24/12/2021 23:11

Oh please not Braelynn - that poor child. Sounds like Braille(+n) the writing for the blind

nailslikeknives · 24/12/2021 23:19

Adelyn is my favourite from your list.
Pronounced Adalin? Love it.

jennytogether · 24/12/2021 23:20

I really like Claire. It’s a lovely sounding name, and not at all popular at the moment.

DappledThings · 25/12/2021 07:18

@Princessbelle7

It’s used for both but I guess it’s more common for boys in the UK. I think spelling it Emersyn makes it more feminine and more obvious that she’s a girl. I also prefer that spelling.
Not as obvious as just giving her a girl's name to start with. It literally has the word son in it so is clearly a boy's name. If you have to use a made-up spelling to disguise the fact you are using an obviously boy's name for a girl it's getting really silly.
Daisydoor12 · 25/12/2021 08:16

Alyssa gets my vote noble and graceful

LozMarieFielder · 25/12/2021 10:14

Brooke - not bad
Claire - too common 40-45 years ago
Piper - not really a name to me, just a not very nice sound
Adelyn - it’s okay, nothing more
Riley - overused 10 years ago
Peyton - I’ve always disliked this name for some reason
Ellie - okay as a nn, but even then there are better nicknames for Eleanor, Elizabeth etc
Elliana - quite like this
Macey - not the worst of the ‘aceys’ but not my cup of tea
Bailey - okay for a boy
Braelynn - sounds made up
Ava - pretty
Amelia - love this but very popular at the moment
Delilah - used to not like this but it’s growing on me
Alyssa - pretty
Madison - prefer Madeline
