What do you all think of Eve? Has it been overdone due to the popularity of Evie?

My all time favourite. The popularity of trendier variations - Eva, Evie, Evelyn and even Ava make it seem more ubiquitous than it is. The original and classic has never been extremely popular in recent times to my knowledge. I can understand why some feel it’s lost in the sea of those names though. For me it’s a perfect choice - the lbd of names.

amallierory · 20/12/2021 13:54

It's lovely. I work with children under 5 and I have actually come across more Eves than Evies in recent years, despite Evie being the more popular name. Don't let popularity put you off though because it really is gorgeous. Timeless, simple and pretty.

Sausage222 · 20/12/2021 13:56

I like it but reminds me a Evie which has been so over done

toastofthetown · 20/12/2021 14:34

It’s just dull so me along with Evie, Evelyn, Eva, Ivy, Ava. The whole sound is just saturated which makes all names of that family bland.

delshell · 20/12/2021 14:52

I like it a lot. Classic and timeless, particularly compared to Evie, which is overused and I think will sound dated in the future.

Bellafrenum · 20/12/2021 14:53

I think it's beautiful. I have taught in a secondary school for 11 years and have never come across an Eve.

WhoppingBigBackside · 20/12/2021 15:07

There are so many similar names that it merges into them. Evie, Eva, Ava, Ivy, Niamh (mispronounced as Neev), Evelyn. Aoife etc

I don't like the others but I do like Eve.

mrsrobin · 20/12/2021 15:10

Lovely name, reminds me of someone I used to know - who was also lovely!

inappropriateraspberry · 20/12/2021 15:12

It's lovely, but if they're born around Christmas everyone will presume their birthday is the 24th!

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 20/12/2021 15:13

My DD2 has a variation of this name (a very uncommon one in England) which I obviously love. I prefer Eva to Eve but I like both.

hopingforabrighterfuture2021 · 20/12/2021 15:34

I like it a lot, but prefer Eva.

Soubriquet · 20/12/2021 15:39

I love Eve. It was one name I really wanted for DD but dh didn’t like it and put his foot down

Edenember · 20/12/2021 16:01

@Soubriquet I’ve been in exactly the same position. Was devastated, I didn’t realise anyone could have such a strong aversion to such an inoffensive name, it was the one name I had my heart set on.

Soubriquet · 20/12/2021 18:06

My dh didn’t like it because he sees it as a religious name and he isn’t religious but there we go

Luredbyapomegranate · 20/12/2021 18:13

It’s lovely but there are 60 million Eve, Evie, Eva, Evelyn, Avas, and I now see Evelina popping up.

So I would try and find something else if you possibly can..

CrispAndFrosty · 20/12/2021 20:17

Have to say, this would never occur to me.

Eve is beautiful and I'm sure some of today's Evies will wish they had it as their proper name. I've never understood why Evie is so popular as a given name when Eve is shorter and lends itself easily to Evie anyway. (Same thoughts on Gracie and Grace).

Eve has a deep, still presence of its own, even amidst a crowd of Evies, Avas etc.

Buddhabowl · 20/12/2021 20:22

Im sorry I think I disagree with most on this thread. I don't see it as classic, I don't know any my age or older and I don't think it will stand the test of time. It is way too associated with the name Evie now and Eva and Ava, they all merge into one and have become very dull.and as a result they will fall out of fashion and sound dated.
There are so many beautiful classic names that are more substantial and that sound a lot more fresh than Eve.

BellsaRinging · 20/12/2021 20:23

I love it!

Fetchthevet · 20/12/2021 20:23

Love it.

Same.
IamnotwhouthinkIam · 21/12/2021 02:05

Stunning - far more timeless feeling than Evie, Evelyn or Evelina, Evangeline etc but statistically always much less popular/overused than equally classic Eva. If I wanted to go for one of the Ev- girls names, it would be the one I'd pick.

Imo Eve has an elegant look and sound, yet still has a kind of cool modern feel thanks to the fact it's a short, simple palindrome (which when combined with it's meaning, therefore tends to get used sometimes in Sci-fi/fantasy books and films).

Edenember · 21/12/2021 02:17

@IamnotwhouthinkIam agreed. It’s gorgeous and understated.

Queeen · 21/12/2021 02:39

I really don't like it.

I love Evangeline though.

All the other v names like Evie, Ava, Ivy, etc, no. Boring and overdone.

PurBal · 21/12/2021 02:44

I prefer Eve to Evie. Evie is a diminutive which I don’t like for given names.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 21/12/2021 02:44

@Edenember - yes, I can never work out why Eve is underused when Evie, Eva, Evelyn aren't. Most people seem to have got past the Biblical story (especially now it has been given a more feminist perspective) so I can only think it's that Eve doesn't fit the current trends for "a" or "ie" ending, retro/vintage, or elaborate girls names - it's understated as you say.
