I am pregnant and really like the name robyn. My surname is Allan. Someone made a passing remark that it sounds like someone’s robbing Allan. Now I’m not sure. Advice?

Absolutely ove the name Robyn, favourite girls name by far. But had to give it up because of our surname.

Robyn Allan isnt too bad, it's a bit N-y with Ns at the end of both names. But honestly, I dont think there is anything tease worthy in there (not a lot of Alan's around these days), and most of the time she'll just be Robyn anyway. So if you love it, go for it!

A580Hojas · 16/12/2021 18:39

Ignore whoever made that remark. Robyn is beautiful!

RussianSpy101 · 16/12/2021 18:39

Robyn is a gorgeous name OP.

IVflytrap · 16/12/2021 18:53

It's fine, that's not something that would jump to my mind if I heard her full name. Go for it if you love it. Smile

PintOfBovril · 16/12/2021 18:54

It was our favourite for a girl. Love it. Go for it.

Shr03 · 16/12/2021 18:57

Thank you so much! Really appreciate the input ❤️

It's fine with your surname - no one would make that connection.
The one I know has a surname ending in N too. Not a problem.

SingingSands · 16/12/2021 19:02

That sounds so lovely!

grafittiartist · 16/12/2021 19:07

Gorgeous name

Raindancer411 · 16/12/2021 19:09

My son was going to be a Robyn, and is instead a Robin (we didn't find out his sex in pregnancy). So I am bias

wetwiped · 16/12/2021 19:14

Love the name. Would go for it

newtolineofduty · 16/12/2021 19:22

It's on our list! It's beautiful!!!! X

liveforsummer · 16/12/2021 19:38

Just slot in a long middle name to balance out the slightly samey first and second name. Robyn Alexandra Allan or the likes

Mrsjayy · 16/12/2021 19:42

It doesn't sound like she will be Robbin Allan at all. It's a lovely name I know a few Robyn s and none of them sound like they are Robbin anybody

Luredbyapomegranate · 17/12/2021 00:02

I think it’s fine
I’d spell it Robin though

Invisiblewoman1 · 18/12/2021 06:52

I love the name I just don’t like or understand why it gets changed to Robyn for a girl. Do we need to make gender that obvious? Robin is fine for the bird and a perfect unisex name. It’s lovely.

Dustyblue · 18/12/2021 06:55

Lovely name. I always thought it was Robyn for Girls and Robin for Boys, no idea why. Both are nice for either I think.

theworldhasgoneinsane · 18/12/2021 06:57

I have an 8 year old Robyn so I'm bias but love it!

Dollywilde · 18/12/2021 06:58

I really like it, and yes I always think Robyn for a girl and Robin for a boy. No need to follow that rule if you don’t want to, but I have a friend with a girl Robin and people assume all the time that she is a boy, which she finds quite annoying!

Popetthetreehugger · 18/12/2021 07:01

We have a robyn , beautiful strong name . Congratulations 🙌

VanillaAndOrange · 18/12/2021 13:48

I always thought it was Robyn for Girls and Robin for Boys

Usually that way round, although Robyn Hitchcock is a high-profile exception.

I don't hear "robbing Allan" at all - if anything I get a slight association with the Robin Hood legend, as I think there was someone called Al(l)an in his team. That's not a bad thing!
