Favourite nn for Elizabeth?

I'm starting to quite like Elizabeth, mainly due to the abundance of nicknames. My favourite is Beth I think. Someone suggested Tess could also be nn? What would your favourite nn be? Also, do you think naming your baby Elizabeth might make you sound a bit royalist??

My Irish auntie is called Lizabet

StormyCornishSeas · 16/12/2021 21:16

I love Elizabeth and the reason is because of all the nm you can get out of it.
My favourites are Beth, Eliza & Lizzy. But I think I would depend on what the character of my DD and it would be totally up to her which nickname she chose. If any

Fleur405 · 16/12/2021 21:17

Eliza is my favourite but I also like Beth a lot.

Newmum29 · 16/12/2021 21:21

Betty

rc22 · 16/12/2021 21:52

Test is a nn for Theresa.

I'm an Elizabeth known as Liz and I hate it. I didn't really chose it, people just started to call me it! I wish I'd adopted Beth myself as I prefer that. I also like Bess or Bessie but would have very unfashionable growing up in the 80s and 90s I suppose.

piglet81 · 16/12/2021 21:58

Betsy

But most of the nicknames are great!

I love the name Elizabeth. My favourite nn is Libby, but Beth is also nice.

Twizbe · 16/12/2021 22:07

I'm an Elizabeth and always known as either Lizzie or Liz.

Twizbe is my brothers nn for me from not being able to say Lizzie properly.

My mum said she picked it because there are 42 nicknames for Elizabeth so I was bound to find one I liked.

UndeadSlut · 16/12/2021 22:08

Beth or Betsy. Really dislike Ellie, and can't imagine a Liz under 40!

I know two 7 year old Elizabeths who are known as Lizzie and Elizabeth.

The Betsy I knew was just Betsy on the birth certificate.

Twizbe · 16/12/2021 22:10

@VanillaAndOrange

I like Liz for adults but I'd probably use Lizzie at least until secondary school.
Lol - secondary school was when I became Liz rather than Lizzie.
SunsetSmartmeter · 16/12/2021 22:59

My Grandmother was Elizabeth & she loved her full name & hated the fact that it had always been shortened to Bettie.

After she died my cousin named his daughter Elizabeth after her...she is 9 now & gets called Bettie too, so it's just going down the generations Grin

I think it's an outstanding name. My favourite shortening would be Bess.

Luredbyapomegranate · 16/12/2021 23:55

Lizbie

I have heard Tess as a nn. It’s too popular to have particular royal associations

DaisyWaldron · 17/12/2021 00:06

I have never heard of Tess as a nickname for Elizabeth, only for Theresa. This thread is the first time I've ever come across it. Was it actually a thing, before Tess Daley?

Am I the only one who likes "Liz"? I think it's quite cool sounding.

I love Eliza but think it's different-sounding enough that it really needs to be a separate name.

KirstenBlest · 17/12/2021 13:28

I like Liz but not keen on Elsie.

Crosswordqueen99 · 17/12/2021 15:25

Bessie and Lizzie.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 17/12/2021 17:58

Oh, forgot Buffy and Bizzy/Busy for Elizabeth too - very cute nn's on a little one.

swampytiggaa · 17/12/2021 18:01

My Elizabeth was always Elizabeth. I also have a Victoria and an Alexandra. I am not a royalist 😂😂

All of them go by their full names 😊

MissCruellaDeVil · 17/12/2021 18:38

@XmasSadface

Beth isnt a nickname of Elizabeth, that's stealing! Beth is it's own name - Bethany. Very cute name.
You sure? It's literally in the name!Grin
