What do you preferential?

Ethan Thomas or Max Nathaniel

Do you know any Max's or Ethan's, what are they like?

Max Nathaniel - I like this one better. Nathaniel is my favourite of all 4 names you gave and I love the diminutive Nate. Don't know any Max's.

Ethan Thomas - This feel a bit wet to me, I'm not fond of it, maybe because the only Ethan I've ever known was a very dweeby snot nosed boy.

DramaAlpaca · 11/12/2021 15:02

Max Nathaniel is great.

I don't like Ethan at all, sorry. Thomas is very nice though.

GemmaRuby · 11/12/2021 15:04

I’ve always had an irrational dislike for Ethan - much prefer Nathan. I’d go Nathan Thomas personally.

Or Max Nathaniel if I was picking between your two options.

mnp321 · 11/12/2021 15:14

Like Max, not so keen on the flow of Max Nathaniel (short then long). Then again, who says both names anyway so it doesn't much matter.

PanicBuyingSprouts · 11/12/2021 16:02

For some reason I don't like Ethan either.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 11/12/2021 17:37

Ethan Thomas

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 11/12/2021 17:42

Really like Nathaniel. Is that not an option?

TuftyMarmoset · 11/12/2021 17:49

I don’t think Max Nathaniel flows well although I probably prefer those names. I prefer Max to be short for something though.
Better combos imo:
Nathaniel Ethan
Nathaniel Thomas
Maximilian Thomas
Maxwell Thomas
Maxwell Ethan

RavenclawsRoar · 11/12/2021 17:54

I like both but if I had to pick one I'd go for Max.

SnowdropFox · 11/12/2021 18:03

Ethan Thomas. Loads of Max's around here a range of ages (when my lo was born 3 years ago there were 3 Max's in our 4 person room!)
Also I just do not like Nathaniel.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 11/12/2021 18:10

Max Nathaniel

The 18 year old Max I know is cool and very clever. The 14 year old Ethan I know is a little thug, so I may be biased.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 11/12/2021 20:33

I vaguely know one young Ethan and no Max's (well I do know one - a dog, but most dogs around here have "people" names so that wouldn't put me off!).

While both choices are nice enough, I definitely prefer Max Nathaniel. Nathaniel is lovely - traditional sounding, yet underused and Max is a simple, but not super popular classic. Thomas is nice and timeless but very well used and I find Ethan slightly trendy sounding (despite it's old biblical heritage).

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 11/12/2021 20:59

Ethan reminds me of Ethan Frome, which is quite a gloomy novel. It's not an awful name though.

But I prefer Max. Short and snappy and a good international name. Only as a standalone name though, Maximilian and Maxwell are not good.

I also love Nathaniel. Such a gorgeous name.

Onlinedilema · 11/12/2021 21:36

Ethan Thomas.
I've met a couple of Ethans. Generally very pleasant kids.

user1493494961 · 11/12/2021 22:34

Nathaniel Thomas.

I know a lovely 9 yo Max, short for Maximilian. Also know a pleasant Ethan, aged 18. I prefer Max Nathaniel from your 2 choices.

Luredbyapomegranate · 12/12/2021 01:19

Max Nathaniel by a long way

LadyWithLapdog · 12/12/2021 01:23

Max Nathaniel

Kanaloa · 12/12/2021 03:21

They’re both nice - shame you can’t use both! I would say Max Nathaniel personally. No real reason, I just think Max is such a nice name.

To answer your question, I know two little Ethans, both reception age, one Maximus who is 6 and one just Max who is 10.

Anotherhill · 12/12/2021 03:55

I like both. Ethan is more common than Max near me. I also really like Nathan or Nate.

ilovemykids5 · 12/12/2021 06:48

Max Thomas 😊

Botanica · 12/12/2021 07:36

So many Ethan's and Max's around. Personally wouldn't go for either.

I love the suggestions of Nathan Thomas or Nathaniel Thomas. Both really lovely names.

Foxglovers · 12/12/2021 09:36

Love the name max! Think it’s a much stronger sounding name that Ethan
