Nerys?

I think we've decided on this. The sound is lovely, it's Welsh, not popular.
What haven't we thought of?

I like it. It does remind me of Nerys Hughes of the Liverbirds, but that’s not a problem.

SirSamuelVimes · 09/12/2021 23:10

Reminds me of Kira Nerys (star trek deep space nine). She was ace! So I like it.

DramaAlpaca · 09/12/2021 23:11

My only association is the same as MatildaJayne.

It's a very pretty name and you don't come across it often. I say go for it.

CheshireCats · 09/12/2021 23:13

Are you in Wales op?

WeasilyPleased · 09/12/2021 23:44

@CheshireCats no but we both have Welsh ancestry. Ooh brilliant! Very positive so far...watch someone come along and spoil it Grin

Disclaimer: I was born early 70s. However, Nerys and Rhian were the least cool names you could possibly have when I was in school.

Peregrina · 10/12/2021 00:04

If they weren't cool in the seventies then now is the time! Think of all the names popular now that no one would have dreamed of calling their children back then - the Arthurs, and the Adas or Elsie and so on.

I like it BTW.

Kite22 · 10/12/2021 00:05

I really like it too.
My first thought, like first reply was Nerys Hughes from the Liver Birds, but that is no issue - she always seemed lovely anyway.

I might be biased as have Welsh heritage but live in England. I think Nerys fits into the group of names that sounds Welsh but can be pronounced and spelled easily enough by non-Welsh speakers.

Lovely choice. Smile

It's a lovely name! It does remind me of Nervous Nerys from Only Fools and Horses but that's probably just me 😁

Me too!

I'm not a fan, but then mid century names like Vera and Alma are on the up, and I'd put Nerys in the same category.

OrangeAndYellowAndBlue · 10/12/2021 07:56

Lovely! I know a baby Nerys (in England). I hadn't heard it before, but it's a nice sound.

3peassuit · 10/12/2021 08:01

Very pretty name.

CaffiSaliMali · 10/12/2021 08:56

I like it. I work with a Nerys who is lovely.

My first thought was 'don't have a son called Rodney!', so it isn't just you!

It is a nice name though.

emmathedilemma · 10/12/2021 14:55

I like it and i've only ever met one.

CalonGaled · 10/12/2021 15:15

Nice. A bit like Cerys but without the C before an e issue

user1493494961 · 10/12/2021 18:29

A bit 'Granny' and not in a nice way.

SantasGoodLittleGirl · 10/12/2021 18:32

Hughes. Nerys Hughes played a nurse in something. I think. As well as being a Liver Bird.

MajorCarolDanvers · 10/12/2021 18:32

Lovely

A580Hojas · 10/12/2021 18:34

Absolutely beautiful name!

Scirocco · 10/12/2021 18:49

I love it. Kira Nerys was a fantastic character in Star Trek - a strong woman who stood up for her values and to protect others, as well as being compassionate and caring. I know that's probably not who's inspired your choice, but I think she's a great namesake to have.

sageandbasil · 10/12/2021 19:05

I like Nerys. I know a few older ones it's s lovely name
