We have decided on the name Alice for our baby girl but struggling for a middle name. Would love to hear any suggestions you may have. Thanks x

Alice is very neutral name, and one syllable, so most things will go nicely. I guess you have 3 routes.

  1. Any runner up names that you/your partner like? If one of you has a stronger preference for Alice, maybe the other gets to steer the middle name more?
  2. Family name. This isn't for everyone, but is an option if you struggle otherwise. It can cause problems of 'equality' if you choose to honour one side of the family and not the other.
  3. Go bold. Alice is pretty and popular for decades (with good reason) but fairly safe, you could easily pair it with something more uncommon and exciting as a middle name as her first name will be normal. Imelda, Rowena, Margarita, and Leta are names I love.

If your surname starts with S (Smith is the most common surname in the UK) avoid anything starting with S, you don't want the itials A.S.S.

Something that means something to you and that isn't a filler single-syllable middle name.

Alice is quite popular and if your surname is a common one, use a name that will make the full name flow
