We're really struggling for baby boy names. We've fallen in love with two but both have been criticised by family and friends and now we don't know what to do. We know it's obviously our decision regardless but still makes you think what others say.

Our surname is Loader and we love Lincoln but unsure about the alliteration. The 2nd is Carson, but then my Mother in law said he'll be known as a 'Car Loader' due to our surname. Now we wonder if either of them go, or if he'll/ we'll have the mickey taken once he's born.

Any thoughts or help appreciated!! xx

I think Lincoln with your last name sounds a bit much. Carson works though and I wouldn’t have thought of car loader?

ScottishSleepyMum · 04/12/2021 20:29

I prefer Carson!! Definitely can't see him being called car loader?!

Hewasperfect · 04/12/2021 20:30

I did instantly think that 'car' and 'loader' was odd together Blush Sorry

Hewasperfect · 04/12/2021 20:32

How about Huxley? Rocco? Harrison?

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 04/12/2021 20:35

Normally I’d say ignore your family (and don’t tell them in advance) but I agree that neither really suit your surname.

DD1 has an alliterative name but with a K and C. Lincoln Loader has too much of an alliterative feel to it. It’s reminding me of something but I’m not sure what.

Carson Loader sounds better but I don’t love Carson.

Cyberworrier · 04/12/2021 20:35

Is Carson the butler in Downton Abbey? I don't know if I'd think " car loader ", necessarily, but I'm not sure if it's a great combination. Not that my opinion matters!
How about James Loader? Henry Loader? For some reason quite traditional names go well with the surname imo. Christopher Loader, Thomas Loader etc. Oscar Loader, Dylan Loader...
Lincoln Loader and Carson Loader just sound a bit jarring/clunky somehow.

Babyfg · 04/12/2021 22:10

If I'm honest they sound like something I'd see on the back of a white van (like a man in a van company name).

But tbh I think there's a lot worse children have been named. If I heard a child named either I might raise a bit of an eyebrow like oh that's unusual but that would be it.

Luredbyapomegranate · 04/12/2021 22:15

Hmm yes, I hate to be a bugger but Lincoln Loader is definitely out, and Carson Loader is not as bad but it does still sound odd - like a haulage company?

Loader is not the easiest surname.. would you consider a more conventional first name? I think it would help eg Jack Loader, Frank Loader, Alex Loader, Jim Loader, Finn Loader.. they all sound a lot better. I think short and simple is key. Sorry Op. j think whatever you do give him a conventional middle name, so he has some options.

I think a three or four syllable name works best with your surname. How about:

Dominic Loader
Alexander Loader
Anthony Loader
Christopher Loader
Joshua Loader
Elliott Loader
Samuel Loader

It’s making me think of vans. Like Ford Transit, it’s a Lincoln Loader.

Who are these strange people that take names and come up with random nonsense.

If you like Carson go for it. Sod your family. And definitely don't listen to people's opinions on here. If you like it go for it. You often get random thoughts on here, like if your son is called Eric people will call him erection. Stick to what you want and you can't go wrong

forestlovr · 05/12/2021 14:21

Mocking people for their names doesn't really happen as much anymore. The older generations always think like this but younger people have a different sense of humour. (I say this as someone with a pretty unusual name, and never had any problems) Unless the name sounds rude/sexual or is extremely funny your kid will be fine. Carson is very normal name and I don't think anybody will make the connection 'car loader' with your last name.

user1493494961 · 05/12/2021 19:50

They both sound like vehicles, I think you need something that isn't a surname.

VenusClapTrap · 06/12/2021 21:25

I was all ready to say ignore your family until you said the actual names; but ‘cars on loader’ - no you really can’t use that. Carlton Loader? Carsten Loader?

MrsFoxyplease · 06/12/2021 21:30

I don't like either name with your surname-sorry.
I think a traditional name may 'go' best.

James Loader
Adam Loader
Christopher/Christian Loader
Nathaniel Loader

CinderellaFant · 07/12/2021 14:46

I think Christopher Loader sounds lovely.
Sorry but I immediately read Carson Loader as cars on loader.

daisypond · 07/12/2021 17:08

I’m not keen on either name, but both are particularly awkward with your surname.
