Everybody knows a Dave…

…right?!

How many do you know?
DH is a Dave (born early 70s), and in our circles, there are —5– 6 others we can think of.

But we don’t know of any child Daves, or baby Daves!
We know one who is in his early 20s.

Are there any little Daves in your neck of the woods?

What is your opinion on the name David - (rightfully!) a dying breed, or due a revival?
What are the Daves in your lives like? Top bloke or annoying git?
DH constantly sways from one to the other!

My DH is a David. I used to work with him and in the team of approx 40 people, there were about 7 Daves counting him.

My dp is a dave born early 90s and I have an uncle dave born in 59 I think. Funnily enough before I met my dp I always wanted a son called David as you don't really hear of any young David's!

Op I like the name David, Dave is in offensive enough.
I had heard a few years ago that the most common male name overall was David. Now was that UK wide or England? I don't know and it may not be true today.

Davy is nice for a little boy.

I quite like Dave as a nickname. DH's uncle is a Dave, he's in his 70s. He gets called both.

We also went to sixth form with a David, he was always Dave. I went to school with two Davids - one was always David and the other Dave (he's a policeman now, and a prick). All would've been born 1988/89.

DD(7) has a David in her class but as far as I know he's just David at the moment.

I don’t like this name because the one I knew is a narcissistic sociopath who abuses women. A very personal (but strong) association. That said, I don’t like the name anyway. It’s still too 80s in my head, and not particularly nice sounding.

There is a 3 year old David on my son’s Gaelic team which I thought sounded really refreshing. I assume he’s named after his father. Where I’m from if it’s a traditional name like that, usually the child is given the Irish version so I’ve heard of a few little boys called Daithi (Da-hee) after David or Caoimhin after Kevin etc.

I know a dave and a David. Both of them are complete and utter pricks so it really puts me off the name.

David is still going strong in the Jewish community- I know at least 10 boys with this name!

My 6 year old has a friend called David.

Another family I know - woman in her mid sixties. Her dad was a Dave, husband is called Dave, son is called Dave, son in law is also called Dave!

David is a good name. I also really like Alan and Ian, they sound really good. Hate Paul though, always have.

I've known lots of Davids over the years. There was one in my son's year at primary school, so born about 1994. One we know currently who's in his mid 50s. Any number at work. A great uncle born in the 1900s.

It's always been one of my favourite boys' names. Unfortunately my husband wasn't keen, so we settled on something else. I much prefer David to Dave, but of course you can't control how your child wants to be known.

The DHs in the group of mums I met through NCT who I've kept in touch with are all Daves. And DHs first job, with what was then a huge company, apparently had a hiring quota of at least 70% Daves... everyone got referred to by their surname.

Nowadays it seems to have become popular for dogs. Dave the Dog.

My children recently met an adult man called Dave and there was much hilarity afterwards at him having a dog name - how times change! They have a human friend called Spike they don't bat an eyelid at but we have met a lot of dogs called Dave, Alan, Craig etc. recently.

I know plenty of 40 plus Dave's and Davids.

Just one 11 year old and a 3 year old though, it suits them well.

David is a beautiful biblical name. Dave is fine as a diminutive.
