Everybody knows a Dave…

…right?!

How many do you know?
DH is a Dave (born early 70s), and in our circles, there are —5– 6 others we can think of.

But we don’t know of any child Daves, or baby Daves!
We know one who is in his early 20s.

Are there any little Daves in your neck of the woods?

What is your opinion on the name David - (rightfully!) a dying breed, or due a revival?
What are the Daves in your lives like? Top bloke or annoying git?
DH constantly sways from one to the other!

I know several men over fifty, and a pony called Dave.

It’s a good name, due a revival. I’d like to see some baby Richards and Pauls too. Both of those were on the shortlist for ds.

David is lovely.

Dave, not so much.

Either way, I don't know any Dave/David children.

I know three Dave’s who are also known as Dickhead Dave, Mr Angry and Mr Smarmy. None are nice people.

I also know three David’s who are all lovely.

I’m sure if you ask about any name you’ll get a collection of answers. I’m sure your Dave/David will be lovely.

I know 2 Davys in their 20s-30s, both from
Cornwall and named after Humphrey Davy I guess, neither of them is David in full. Davy is nice. Only know one septuagenerian and a cat called Dave.

I love the name David! I know a good handful of little David's (although not all of UK origin, so it may be pronounced in a East European or French way).

I must say none of them are called Dave, sadly, just David or Davy.

I do know a cat called Dave, and he really suits the name.

@Kanaloa

I know lots of adult Davids and my daughter has one little friend (primary school age) named David. He is Polish though and I’ve noticed lots of Polish children I’ve looked after have more old fashioned/traditional names - Wiktoria/Victoria, Nicole/Nicola, Michael, names like that. I think they’re all well due a proper comeback to be honest! Also met a small boy named John last week which I thought was lovely and really suited him.

Yes we know quite a few Michael, David, Andrew’s that have Polish backgrounds. So they are a few Andy, Mikeys as shortenings but the David’s are not shortened to Dave.

I know several middle aged Daves and one child (in Y6 so 10 or 11). I think Dave is an ordinary bloke, solid and dependable.

I know loads of Daves. I'm 32. Lots around in my age group.
But my children dont have any in their school that I've heard of (their school has fewer than 200 kids so we sort of know all the names).

Only one child, age 11, always called David, never Dave!

I've an uncle David.

Dads best friend is Dave.

My parents shave at least another 4 friends who are Daves (60s)

I had at least 2 Daves in my school class. Friend married a Dave. DHs friend is a Dave. All mid 30s.

But yes.

Not knowingly any Davids in DCs school. And didn't meet any in various baby/toddler groups.

I know lots of Davids and Daves - ranging from nice to absolutely lovely. I've never met one born later than about 1990 (in spite of teaching hundreds of children born after that).

I think it would be a super name to use.

I have an Uncle David who is in his 70’s and my husband’s friend known as Dave in his late 50’s.

DH and I have 5 children between us and never came across any boys called David and in 12 years working in Early Years I never came across any.

Two Dave’s in my life. One a narcissistic control freak, one a Trump supporting bigot.

I actually like the name David but Dave does not have good connotations.

I have an uncle David and a boss called David/Dave. Uncle is always just David, but Boss grew up in a WC area and said his childhood mates still call him DeeDee, which was a new nn for me!

I was in a park about two years ago and there was a toddler David, it was the first time I'd ever come across a child with that name and I actually did a double take.

It's migrated onto my baby name list over the last few years, really grown on me. It'll be George or David if we ever have a boy- but not both, as with my part of the surname it would sound too prime-ministery!

I know one David who is a year old. One Dave and one David in their 70s and a couple of Daves.

I like the name.

My ds is called David. He's a teenager and we adopted him aged 4. Obviously, we didn't choose the name and I wouldn't have chosen that particular name, but he is David, I can't imagine him being called anything else and it really suits him. We never shorten it to Dave (although we do have our own special nickname for him) and he was the only David in his school. I love the name David now and hope it makes a revival.

I have a 3yo and among one particular set of playgroup acquaintances are David, Michael and Paul. Its a very middle class playgroup! It is nice to hear those names (once your ear adjusts from assuming the mums are talking about their partners). But I do get the impression the names were chosen to be quirky.

Nursery and other groups are populated by the usual Roman, Alfie, Oscar types. Will Alfie/Alf be the Dave of the future?
