Which would you choose and why?

Delilah
Phoebe
Jessica
Marnie
Alannah

I think these are all quite different in style but seem to be the only names me and dh can kind of agree on. I have reservations about most though, any other suggestions welcome. Thanks!

Phoebe, Jessica and Marnie are to my taste. Phoebe is one of my favourite names.

I don't particularly like Delilah or Alannah

MrsFoxyplease · 20/11/2021 08:54

I love Delilah, Jessica and Marnie.
My thoughts...
Delilah- pretty but has a 'cool' edge.
Jessica- only thing I don't like is potential Jess shortening. Pretty name. Wholesome image.
Marnie- unique, cool, unconventional. Not quite as 'pretty' but I do love it.

MrsFoxyplease · 20/11/2021 08:55

I don't like the look or sound of Phoebe. Something about it just looks 'wrong'.

RoseMartha · 20/11/2021 08:58

Jessica or Alannah

RoseMartha · 20/11/2021 08:58

Sorry didnt say why. I like them better.

WhenZoomWasJustAnIceLolly · 20/11/2021 08:59

Delilah - why, why why….it’s not a bad name but I’d probably go for Delia.

Phoebe - gorgeous name but friends connotation.

Jessica - bit 80’s to me

Marnie - lovely

Alannah - dislike it! Also pronunciation issues of al-anna vs al-arna

WhenZoomWasJustAnIceLolly · 20/11/2021 09:00

Lana rather than Alannah if you like the al-arna pronunciation?

MajorCarolDanvers · 20/11/2021 09:01

Jessica

EileenGC · 20/11/2021 09:03

I like Jessica and Alannah

MrsFin · 20/11/2021 09:14

What's the obsession with Delilah recently? It's in everyone's lists. It's awful.

I like Phoebe from your list OP.

CamilleCamisole · 20/11/2021 09:19

Phoebe I think, although I have to confess I'm not mad about any of them. But I feel your pain on not having many to agree on with OH!

Least favourite is Marnie.

raintropics · 20/11/2021 09:44

I love Delilah and Alannah. Really dislike Phoebe.

EdgeOfACoin · 20/11/2021 10:24

Dislike Delilah - Delilah was a deceptive, manipulative character in the Bible.

Jessica - Nice name - Shakespearean.

Phoebe - Not to my taste. Reminiscent of the word feeble.

Marnie - bit insubstantial but it would be a nice nickname.

Alannah - I like but prefer the spelling Alana, which seems less fussy.

So Jessica and Alannah would be my favourites.

Luredbyapomegranate · 20/11/2021 10:31

Oooh

Marnie but only as a nn for Marianne or Marina, it’s too insubstantial as a full name.
Jessica is solid, and Jess / Jessie good nns
So one of these two

Phoebe is nice, bit twee for me
Delilah - ok, just too fussy for me
Alannah - no - just makes me think of 70s rock chicks.. somehow not in a good way. It’s a bit downmarket somehow.

VioletCharlotte · 20/11/2021 10:39

I love Alannah and like Phoebe and Jessica. Not keen on Delilah, mainly because of the song I think! I don't like Marnie, but only because I used to know someone with this name who wasn't very nice!

ilovemykids5 · 20/11/2021 12:20

I love Phoebe, Jessica and Marnie.
They were on my list but hubby vetoed them all.

MerryChristmasToYou · 20/11/2021 12:41

Delilah - awful
Phoebe - fine, but will be Phoebs
Jessica - nice
Marnie -Hitchcock film, not a good associatiib
Alannah - will get misspelt and mispronounced

Olga03 · 20/11/2021 13:01

Delilah - okay
Phoebe - lovely
Jessica - nice, but comes along with some 90ies vibes
Marnie - unusual, but beautiful - meaning is 'of the sea' is there a connection op?
Alannah - not awful, but boring

shawnaander · 20/11/2021 13:09

Phoebe or Jessica, dislike the others.

35andThriving · 20/11/2021 13:29

I like Phoebe. If i had to rename myself using your list, that's the one I'd pick. It's a nice name that suits all ages.

DuneFan · 20/11/2021 13:36

Love Marnie and Jessica. Both strong names that would sit well on an adult and child. Lots of Jessicas around but you have a couple of good nn options, Jess, Jessie.

Delilah is too frilly for me and Alannah too on trend. Phoebe is lovely but lots around and it doesn't really lend itself to good shortenings.

PurpleIndigoViolet · 20/11/2021 13:39

What about Naomi? I really like most of the names in your list, and Naomi is the name I’d have gone for if I’d had a girl.

RavenclawsRoar · 20/11/2021 13:41

Phoebe. It's a lovely name and not over-used.
I don't mind any of the others- I think Jessica in particular is really nice. The only one I dislike is Marnie.

amylou8 · 20/11/2021 13:54

Like them all, except Delilah. Love Alannah or Lana.
