Sister for Hugo

Helpnamebabyboy · 16/11/2021 13:24

Canvassing thoughts on my list for Hugo’s sister please!

Cressida (I love this but my Mum says the association with C.Dick is too strong and sees her as anti-feminist…I say that the association is unlikely to continue long term as they’re already looking for her successor)
Cosima
Xanthe - love this but we have one in close friendship circle…
Calliope
Cecily
Stella

For middle name I like Emma which might be tricky with a first name also ending in A?

Thank you!

Stella is definitely my favourite.

My second choice would probably be Cosima. I know a lovely baby Cosimo, he is Italian.

Pumpkinsonparade · 16/11/2021 13:34

Since Hugo is a short name what about Estella/e/Celeste?

ladygindiva · 16/11/2021 13:43

I would choose Cecily because it's lovely, it goes well with Hugo, and Cecily Emma run together really well I think.

Sunsetttt · 16/11/2021 14:02

Cecily is my favourite of your list

BreakfastOfWaffles · 16/11/2021 14:23

Cecily is my favourite on your list. What about Delphine, Anais, Esme, Coralie, Elise, Rosalie or Agnes?

ILoveShula · 16/11/2021 15:01

Cressida - fine
Cosima - like
Xanthe - love this but we have one in close friendship circle… - a bit twee
Calliope - callipers
Cecily - a bit cecil-y
Stella - fine

Irishfarmer · 16/11/2021 16:16

I really like Calliope

Don't worry about her name matching her brothers. None of the names in my family are matching/ similar. Same with DH and most people I know

DukkaDukka · 16/11/2021 16:19

I love Calliope with nickname Callie. Don’t know if I’d be brave enough to use it. Not a fan of Cressida. And Cress is an ugly shortening.

CrimbleCrumble1 · 16/11/2021 19:52

Emma Cecily

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 16/11/2021 20:13

As much as I like it, I don't think Stella works at all with Emma (if that's the definite middle name) - the sounds are too close, although admittedly middle names are rarely said aloud .

My fave in terms of "matching" style with Hugo would probably be Cecily, although I do like the name Xanthe (these two work best with Emma too).

But I also have a soft spot for lovely Shakespearean Cressida (I don't think the Cressida Dick thing matters at all personally, plus I agree she'll probably be less in the public eye in future).

Calliope and Cosima are probably my least favourite, as I'm not keen on nn "Cossie" and dislike the strong "pee" sound in Calliope (prefer Calista).

LadyWithLapdog · 16/11/2021 20:16

Stella and Cecily go well with Hugo

Luredbyapomegranate · 16/11/2021 21:58

Stella for me - you couldn't have Stella Emma - but you could break it up with something simple eg Stella Mary Emma
Also like Cecily, though slightly fussy
Not mad on the rest, although no one will remember Cressida Dick in 10 years so your Mum is being daft.

Cassia, Honor, Claudia, Adela, Emmeline are other thoughts
Emma is lovely as a first name, and pp's suggestion of Emma Cecily is great.

storkstalk · 16/11/2021 22:02

I’d also go Emma first name. It’s classic and beautiful and underused.

I don’t love Calliope and Cecily means blind which I always think is an odd choice

Heh1991 · 17/11/2021 04:12

How do you pronounce Calliope?

Shasha17 · 17/11/2021 04:18

@ladygindiva

I would choose Cecily because it's lovely, it goes well with Hugo, and Cecily Emma run together really well I think.
My thoughts exactly
Allsorts1 · 17/11/2021 04:35

Cecily is my favourite of your list - could also do Celeste, Cecilia (maybe making a comeback maybe not?? Grin)

Celeste to me is stronger and more elegant than Cecily but Cecily is nice and goes with Hugo.

GiltEdges · 17/11/2021 05:00

I also have a Hugo Smile

From your list I like Cecily and Stella. DH and I also liked Daphne, Meredith and Bea for a girl.

Helpnamebabyboy · 17/11/2021 07:22

Thank you everyone!

Not wedded to Emma as middle name if it doesn’t go with the ultimate first name choice - so agree that Stella/Emma probably isn’t the best combo. Grin

If anyone has any other suggestions please shout!

If you like Cressida, name her Cressida.
I'm really confident that none of her friends will know of any other association of the name

Irishfarmer · 17/11/2021 10:26

@Heh1991 I would pronounce it Ca-lie-o-p

ILoveShula · 17/11/2021 10:39

@Heh1991

How do you pronounce Calliope?
Cal-EYE-oh-pee
EdmontinaDonsAutumnalHues · 17/11/2021 10:46

Lalage (😍)

Honor

Clementine

EdmontinaDonsAutumnalHues · 17/11/2021 10:49

Sorry, didn’t comment on your list!

Like all except Stella. And have gone off Calliope, it’s a bit clunky. Xanthe is lovely.

Bimblybomeyelash · 17/11/2021 10:54

Hugo and :

Betsy / Elizabeth
Felicity
Ottilie
Pippa
Penny / Penelope
Tess

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 17/11/2021 10:57

Cosima or Calliope.

I also think Hermione would go beautifully.
