Nathaniel and Josiah

Just wanted to get opinions on these two boy names? What sort of image comes to mind when you hear these names? (For example, when I hear the name Felix, I imagine a slim, polite little boy with big brown eyes and curly brown hair, dressed in that sort of cute middle-class-scruffy way, with maybe a knitted jumper and cords). What sort of image, if any, comes to mind when you hear these names? Asking as I don´t know any of either but like both names! I find this way more interesting then just hearing I likes and I don´t likes.

Thank you!

I know one of each. One is18 and the other is 7. Both really lovely chaps Smile

CasparsWineBar · 15/11/2021 18:27

I love both these names - not helpful I know!

Maybe think about what they will inevitably get shortened to and check you like those names too? All kids names get shortened by their mates!

We know a Nate and the Josiah we know is Joey or Jo.

I have one. Previously I'd imagined a slightly rugged boy. Now I have one he is a very gentle, thoughtful little chap.

Nathaniel is a student, about 20, he's studying English literature or MFL at a top league university. He's very studious and loves his university work. He has dark hair, cut fairly short with a bit of a curl, dark eyes and a kind smile. He has lots of friends and loves spending time with them. He enjoys playing the piano and has joined a music soc at uni as well as surfing. During the summer holidays he coaches surfing to kids.

Josiah sounds like a child from a poor taste comedy about a family in the US deep south (sorry).

WTF?

WeasilyPleased · 15/11/2021 22:35

I love the name Josiah and think that the pp was very rude. To me, it conjures up a studious quiet boy with dual heritage.
Nathaniel is louder and more boisterous but cheeky rather than naughty.

Changethetoner · 15/11/2021 22:37

Black and American.

I really like both names, so my assumption would be that their parents have good taste in names!

Kanaloa · 15/11/2021 23:22

Both nice names. I don’t really have an inbuilt picture though? They’re just nice names that would work well for any type of child. I wouldn’t really name to an ‘imagine’ eg scruffy middle class child/studious dual heritage boy because I’d rather choose a name I like that would suit any child.

😂

What do you mean he’s ‘about twenty.’ You realise he’ll be Nathaniel his whole life?

I´m not ´naming to an image´. I just find this a more interesting way to see other people´s opinions. It helps me to see WHY someone likes or dislikes a name. Plus I think it´s fun to hear these ideas!

Thank you for the images! I like them all!

Nathaniel is Nate on gossip girl. Nice, rich, looks like zac Efron. Lives on the east coast of USA.

Josiah is mixed race, gentle and cool.

The bible comes to mind

Luredbyapomegranate · 17/11/2021 20:22

I mean, just middle class kids...

Iamanicepersonreally · 17/11/2021 20:24

I love both of these names

WhatHoMarjorie · 17/11/2021 20:28

Nathaniel and Josiah are brothers, one a carpenter and one a farmer. They're strong, silent and handsome but have a falling out that ends in tragedy when they both fall in love with Effie, a beautiful but faithless strumpet who sells potions with the travelling fair.

Doomscrolling · 17/11/2021 20:28

Josiah (Jed) Bartlet is my favourite fictional hero; I'll always love that name.

Nathaniel is also good in an outdoorsy Last Of The Mohicans way

Fl0w3ry · 17/11/2021 23:25

I love the name Nathaniel - it was a name I wanted if I had another boy. I think it would be shortened to Nate. Although the 2 names conjure up different images for me. Nate I think of the character on Emmerdale. But Nathaniel I imagine a thoughtful man, slim (not sure why), blond, studious, kind.
Josiah I just think of the Dingles on Emmerdale as they choose names like that. Josiah feels more negative to me, but I don’t know why. I imagine someone scruffy and a bit of a chancer. No offence intended by that, just my honest answer.

My goodness

YES!

This is 100% accurate
