What do you think of the Arab name Layan for a girl?
It’s pronounced Lay as in lake and an as in the name Ann

Thank you x

Are you Arabic?

I'd say that to the ear of someone with English as their mother tongue it sounds more like a boy's name.

Emelene · 13/11/2021 20:05

I thought boys name too, in the realm of Logan/Ryan/Rohan etc.

It’s not to my taste personally.

Asmadasahatter · 13/11/2021 20:06

Thank you for your feedback xx I’ll deffo take that into consideration

Leanne by any other spelling surely ? ( of which there are many ) to most people in the uk if you use it for a girl.

Be prepared for confusion especially with northern accents

AuntDympna · 13/11/2021 20:11

It sounds beautiful. It is somewhat similar to the name Leanne, which is pronounced Lee-ann with the emphasis on the -ann.

addler · 13/11/2021 20:19

I've only heard it pronounced Lay-ahn, with a long A sound. But I think it's lovely.

FlamingoDust · 13/11/2021 20:21

It's OK. I've only met 1 before but it was a boy. I think I prefer it for a girl though

Sirzy · 13/11/2021 20:21

I think it’s lovely and to me the pronunciation was obvious too

HeadLikeAFuckinOrange · 13/11/2021 20:23

I really like it

HeronLanyon · 13/11/2021 20:24

I thought it was unusual spelling of Leanne (Lee-Ann). It’s a lovely name. I too thought was boys name for a second.

LadyCatStark · 13/11/2021 21:00

I like it, it’s nothing like Leanne.

TrollsAreSaddos · 13/11/2021 21:26

It’s a lovely name.

Mamacita191 · 14/11/2021 08:43

VenusClapTrap · 15/11/2021 20:28

Very pretty

WeasilyPleased · 16/11/2021 01:17

Lovely name.

raintropics · 16/11/2021 07:04

I like it but it sounds very similar to Leanne which could be confusing.

BruiserWoods · 16/11/2021 07:13

people are not going to know if its lie-an or lay-an but it's ok

foxgoosefinch · 16/11/2021 07:32

It’s lovely.

Luredbyapomegranate · 16/11/2021 22:14

@raintropics

I like it but it sounds very similar to Leanne which could be confusing.
This. It's nice on paper but I think will sound a bit lumpen in a lot of UK accents. So depends where you're living.
