I have a friend who's surname is Salazar.Grin

I don't think it works great as a first name but I definitely don't hate it.

CoffeeRunner · 10/11/2021 23:58

It's better than Gentry.

GreenWhiteViolet · 11/11/2021 00:00

It makes me think 'Slytherin' immediately, but is miles better than Gentry.

LaCerbiatta · 11/11/2021 00:01

No! Name of a portuguese dictator!

MonsteraDeliciosa · 11/11/2021 00:03

I like it!

Houseofvelour · 11/11/2021 00:13

I'm not a fan at all.
Imagine when they're a spotty teenager working their first job in macdonalds at 17 and having Salazar on their name tag. Nope. It would just be embarrassing.

JennyDune · 11/11/2021 00:20

No. It makes me thing of Salamander for some reason.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 11/11/2021 01:13

Yes and no. Obvious non - UK background/heritage? And/or live in a big (multicultural) City? Then it could well be fine, but otherwise I'd consider if your son is likely to have the confidence to pull it off (as it's a very uncommon name - no records I can find of it being used for a UK born child, although they only record names used more than twice each year). Plus it might get shortened to "Sal/Sally", which could also be something to consider.

Like Slytherin? Not keen.

I don’t mind Salvatore though? I think that’s quite a nice name.
