We really like the name Benjamin James, but our surname starts with a B... Is it a no go?

Is it Button?

DevilWaresPrada · 10/11/2021 19:13

I'd be more worried about the initials BJ.

SunshineCake1 · 10/11/2021 19:14

^ that

The beckhams said they were calling their kid Brooklyn Joseph. to be known as BJ but he never was.

ShowOfHands · 10/11/2021 19:16

BB initials are fine.

I went to school with a Benjamin James and he was BJ and relentlessly teased. He's swapped them in adulthood and is known as JB now!

WLAH · 10/11/2021 19:18

My OH has same initial first name and surname no problem

NigellaSeed · 10/11/2021 19:23

It increases their chances of growing up to be a superhero

OmegaKappa · 10/11/2021 19:23

I think it sounds really nice when the first name and surname are the same initial.

MyMILisLovely · 10/11/2021 19:27

Benjamin Braddock

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 10/11/2021 19:41

Actor Ben Barnes, MP Ben Bradley etc - it's fine imo unless your surname also starts with the "Ben" sound (like Bennett etc) then it might be a bit of a tongue twister.

I actually really like alliterative names - they tend to sound more memorable (hence why lots of famous people seem to have/pick them).

JumperandJacket · 10/11/2021 19:45

I absolutely love alliterative names, so strong. Not sure about BJ though!

wishing3 · 10/11/2021 19:46

This!
MrsFin · 10/11/2021 19:53

Benjamin Bowen is fine. Or any other BB.
But Benjamin James Bowen is not good, nor BJ anything.

Nearlytheretrees · 10/11/2021 20:07

Bb is fine, bj is not

Shasha17 · 11/11/2021 13:39

@DevilWaresPrada

I'd be more worried about the initials BJ.
I thought this
Odile13 · 11/11/2021 13:43

I love alliterative names, they sound great.

Irishfarmer · 11/11/2021 15:44

Don't see anything wrong with same first and last initial. As others have said BJ tho....

Only time first and last initials being the same are a problem is when it's the same name, it happens!

Orarewedancer · 11/11/2021 15:47

I'm hoping to name DC3 with the same initial as last name. I did second guess it because of the 2 initials but I love the name and the more I've considered it the less bothered I am and it actually sounds fine.

Allthingspeaches · 11/11/2021 16:01

My eldest is an EE. I love his name. If you like the name I wouldn't worry about the initials being the same.

Heh1991 · 17/11/2021 04:49

I’m an HH and I really like it. My first name and surname aren’t alike in length or sound so it isn’t super rhymey.

ThirdElephant · 17/11/2021 04:55

It's fine. I've got an alliterative name- I appreciate it most when typing my initials to sign off an email. Saves precious milliseconds.

OrangeAndYellowAndBlue · 18/11/2021 19:55

Definitely sounds good, unless it's Ben Bennett (or something).

Sometimes CC or KK or something like that can sound a bit harsh, but sometimes they work brilliantly. I think BB generally works fine.

Derbee · 19/11/2021 09:28

I love alliterative names. Actively looking for a name with the same letter as surname for our baby. I agree BJ isnt ideal though
