Will there be lots of girls named Sienna?

I am expecting a girl and the only name DH and I can agree on is Sienna.

We thought we had it sorted then Princess Beatrice called her daughter Sienna now we just don't know!

In DDs class at school there are 5 Charlottes and I feel if we call this baby Sienna the name will date really obviously and there will be lots of the same name in school.

We like fairly 'normal' names as in easy to say and spell and ones people have heard before but not too common.

Would you go ahead with Sienna?

If you love it, go for it. It's a lovely name and I don't think Princess Beatrice is in the spotlight enough for the name to become very popular.

Melonportal · 06/11/2021 23:24

I don't think Princess Beatrice will have much impact but it's a popular name already where I am. For good reason though, it's lovely.

HundredMilesAnHour · 06/11/2021 23:26

It was already a common name pre-Beatrice. It's been Top 100 since 2005 due to the Sienna Miller influence.

MysticCT · 06/11/2021 23:26

I would use it if you really like it. I think it's a lovely name. I know one, who is seven.

RedToothBrush · 06/11/2021 23:27

Beatrice is following the trend rather than starting it.

I know of a couple of Siennas born in the last few years. Definitely a name on the rise even without Royal intervention.

Toottooot · 06/11/2021 23:27

There already was - before Beatrice named her child that too. It’s a fairly popular name now.

DukkaDukka · 06/11/2021 23:28

There are already lots of girls called Sienna. It’s been popular for a few years now.

CoffeeRunner · 06/11/2021 23:29

I know several. I think the eldest is 9 now. The youngest a baby.

It was already popular before Beatrice chose the name.

Kitkat151 · 06/11/2021 23:36

It’s already very common in NW where I live....there’s 2 in my GDs year 1 class

MondeoFan · 06/11/2021 23:37

I work with children and for the past 7 years there's been lots of Sienna, Grace, Evie and Amelia.
Now we are starting to get multiple Sophias, Olivias, Molly, Phoebe and Nellie.

sunflowerroses · 06/11/2021 23:59

I don't know any Siennas, and I don't think she'll have a huge impact on it. I'd go for it! Most common girls' names here at primary school are Evie/Eva/Evelyn and Ava.

user128756 · 07/11/2021 00:00

Oh no! I hadn't realised it's quite as popular as it is.

We don't know any, there's no Siennas in the village and the local school DD goes to has none but I have just goggled it and it's no.24 on the list! (Really should have done this before now)

However, I suppose we don't know any. DD has a common name but it's not popular it's not even in the top 100. As we don't know any I'd stupidly assumed it's not that popular.

I have a really common name and really dislike it. It was extremely popular around 25 years ago though I'm older most with my name are in their 20's and it feels very dated now.

Yes I know a few , it’s a nice name though but I get you, I would hate my kids to be sienna M or sienna B etc in school cos she’s got 4 others in her class

Shasha17 · 07/11/2021 01:16

Thete are already a lot of Siennas. Beatrice definitely didn't start this! It's been around for ages, the Sienna fashion. I first noticed it around the time of that weird girl Sienna on Hollyoaks, remember her? That must have been over 6 years ago as I've not been in the UK for ages! I saw the character and thought it was a lovely name, and then started noticing more and more around.

Luredbyapomegranate · 07/11/2021 10:40

It’s getting very common anyway so yes will date as don’t think it will hang around long enough to become a classic

How about Serena, Sabrina, Seraphina, Saskia..

potoforchids · 07/11/2021 10:43

Sienna is very popular where I am - as PP above said, Saskia is a beautiful alternative if popularity bothers you!

sageandbasil · 07/11/2021 11:41

I think sienna is quite popular anyway I don't think Beatrice will have an impact. It's a lovely name

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 07/11/2021 11:44

According to statistics, Sienna was give to 0.27% of babies in 2020. About 3 in one thousand babies.

ILoveShula · 07/11/2021 11:45

No 22 in the list of girl's names. Unusual before 2003 so will probably date

JammyRedRooo · 07/11/2021 12:00

I love it and wanted to use it for DD who was born in August. However someone I work with beat me to it (I know I still could have used it but felt it would be a bit odd). Since then though I've known 2 more be born so I think it is having a bit of a moment. Its lovely though so you should use it!! I had a really popular 90s name and was always Jammy Surname but it's no big deal really.

Camii · 07/11/2021 16:19

Almost all my friends names are very 70s/80s except for the Emilys and Emmas -we all have names that date us.
I loved my 80s name till I joined mn. I don't think I real life it's as important.
I personally love the name Sienna and also Saskia
