Fallen in love with this for baby girl. Have changed my mind weekly though 🙈

Not a fan. It sounds like a housemaid in an Agatha Christie novel.

PesosBandage · 06/11/2021 19:38

I love Enid! But I can only imagine it on a kid up to about 10yrs old.... i wouldn't have wanted to be a teenage Enid. But by the time these kids are teens, it would probably be normal. My kids all have names that would've been weird when I was a teen, but are all pretty normal now!

Also like Ines/ Inez, which is more teenage too, in my view.

PinkBuffalo · 06/11/2021 19:39

I love Enid 🙂

I have an Enid, she's 8 months old. We get a lot of positive feedback on her name (and no doubt a lot of people who smile and say nothing, then talk about how horrible it is later! 😆)

The name has a lot of positive references to me and my husband is half Welsh, we both just fell in love with it. We do use the English pronunciation, though I admit that the Welsh sounds a bit lovelier.

I also loved Ingrid, Frida, Agnes, Maude, Hester... and many others that are still contenders for a hypothetical DD2 so I shall keep to myself. ☺️

GlitterOnTheFloor · 06/11/2021 22:12

I like it op

ThePoisonousMushroom · 06/11/2021 22:12

Just reminds me of The Worst Witch! Brings to mind a sturdy, robust child with flaxen plaits.

lnsufficientFuns · 06/11/2021 22:12

If that’s honestly the best name you can choose to bestow on your child... go for it

I suspect it’s not though Grin

Lemonsyellow · 06/11/2021 22:16

I like Enid, pronounced the proper Welsh way. It sounds quite lovely to me. But the Enid Blyton pronunciation will dominate.

MistandMud · 06/11/2021 22:24

It’s the name of a terrifying great aunt in this family. I’d worry that she’d come back and haunt me.

Yes. And not a minxy one, the dumpy, not very bright one, who ends up dead when she tries to blackmail the murderer.
WeasilyPleased · 06/11/2021 22:29

I'm with @DramaAlpaca and I thank her for putting it a lot more diplomatically than I would.

Volterra · 06/11/2021 22:32

Clara is nice. Don’t rush it. We struggled with one of our DC, they changed their name in their teens. Think we should have waited until they were here.

Wheeliebinsoutinthemorning · 07/11/2021 00:02

When I heard a year ago that my friends had named their baby Enid I was a bit surprised, but now I really love the name and it suits her.

It’s short, easy to spell and difficult to mispronounce.

Wheeliebinsoutinthemorning · 07/11/2021 00:07

Oops, perhaps it can be mispronounced. We’re in Devon not in Wales and I hadn’t realised there was an alternative way to say it..

Are you near Wales, @Clementineapples?

Luredbyapomegranate · 07/11/2021 10:42

You mean Edith OP, don’t you?

That’s MUCH nicer

Marimaur · 07/11/2021 22:42

Cool, in a similar vein to Margot, but less try hard.

autumnkate · 08/11/2021 14:11

I know one who is about 5.

I think it is horrendous.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 08/11/2021 14:17

I'm never quite sure why it's bad to try hard? But that aside surely Enid would be the 'try hard' name as it's far rarer. Margots are everywhere these days.
Whitecushion · 08/11/2021 16:38

Undine?

Marcipex · 08/11/2021 20:28

Undone?

AreYouRightThereSkippy · 08/11/2021 21:48

I know a little Enid. I like it

MollysDolly · 08/11/2021 21:51

She will be nicknamed Blyton at school.

It's not the best name, but it's not the worst.

HeckinMiffed · 08/11/2021 21:51

Love Enid. a classic name. It was my late grandmothers name so I'm used to it. She's the only Enid I've ever known apart from Blyton. Its definitely unusual but I do like it.
Evie is popular round here too.

Spidey66 · 09/11/2021 13:05

I doubt it, tbh. Otherwise everyone who had the same name as someone famous would get a nickname. My names Anne, I’ve never had the nickname Princess, for instance. Even if she did get the nickname Blyton, so what? It’s hardly offensive!
