Middle name for Alexandra!

Hello,
What middle names would you suggest for Alexandra please?

Elizabeth/ Victoria / Lydia / Louisa are also on our list for first names.

Middle names we are stumped!!!

Irene was my grandmothers name. I wouldn't like to use it as a first name but not sure as a middle name and whether it would go with any of those above. Florence is also a family name which could possibly work as a middle name with any of those. ?

Thank you in advance!

I think Irene goes with them all, and it's nice for the middle name to have significance, IMO

daisypond · 28/10/2021 12:51

Irene goes fine with them all.

toastofthetown · 28/10/2021 12:57

Irene goes with then all just fine. Personally I'd value a meaningful name over a name chosen to flow perfectly.

Frazzled2207 · 28/10/2021 13:12

I like both Alexandra Irene and particularly Alexandra Florence

Just don’t go for Grace/Rose/May-mae and def don’t double barrel!

I think a shorter name better but def not more than 2 syllables
Alexandra Joy
Alexandra Claire
Alexandra Jane
Alexandra Kate etc all good IMO

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 28/10/2021 13:14

Does she need a middle name?

Me and my husband don't have them, none of my brothers do, my mum didn't and my daughter doesn't.

If you are just wanting a middle name because it seems the done thing rather than because there's a name you really want to add to hers then I would just not have one.

SummaLuvin · 28/10/2021 13:17

I agree with PP to stick to two syllable maximum, Alexandra is a fairly long name so doesn’t suit a long middle name so well. I would also avoid names ending in ‘a’, so Florence and Irene both work well.

Alexandra is my favourite of your names list for first names.

Alexandra Lucy
Alexandra Sophie

Alexandra Irene is lovely- very classically Greek! As long as she gets Alex or Lexie as a nn. And not Sandra......

Is Irene going to be I-reen or I-re-nee?

TatianaBis · 28/10/2021 16:34

Alexandra Beatrice
Alexandra Florence

Alexandra is a fairly timeless classic (and a lovely choice, although I actually like all your picks).

I think both Irene and Florence fit well - especially as they are both less syllables and don't end in an "ah" sound like Alexandra. I think you could use either or both and it's lovely to have family links for middle names. Of the two Florence is much more fashionable at the moment, but I'm not sure that really matters much for middle names - as few people know about them (which avoids any possible teasing about them being dated or old-fashioned) .

Irene and Florence both sound great with Alexandra, which is a beautiful but strong name.

NearLifeExperience · 28/10/2021 23:39

Irene or Florence. Both are perfect with Alexandra!

My daughter is Alexandra Frances.

How many syllables is the surname?

I think with a one syllable surname a longer middle name is fine, e.g. Alexandra Lydia Smith.

Louisa.

On another note I am envious as I want to name my daughter Alexandra (am pregnant 🤰) but husband is having none of it sigh
Congrats 🥳

Irene is nice. It's significant, and unusual.
Lots of Sophies, Roses, Mays, Eves etc out there, so it would be less common, even as a middle name.

If you weren't keen on Irene. Maybe change to Irena? The added a on the end seems to sound nice with the a on the end of Alexandra

Oaktreepinetree · 29/10/2021 14:08

Hello, thank you all. Some lovely suggestions! Irene will be pronounced as Eye-reen. I like Irena too. Alexandra Frances is gorgeous. It's going to be a hard choice! Thank you for lovely ideas !
