Love the name Frida for a baby girl, but is it too out there? Thinking Frida Kahlo whose art i love...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I love Freda to be honest- I had a great aunt named after her father Frederick-and she was a game old bird- strong and independent. Much more interesting either spelling that the rather wishy washy Freya (but I love Hilda and Winifred too so maybe you shouldn't take much notice lol)

Blubells · 28/10/2021 15:42

Freda is Fred-a

Hobbesmanc · 28/10/2021 16:15

@Blubells

Freda is Fred-a
I've only heard Freda as Freeda ? at least as my aunts name?. Also the Vic Wood song. Never as Fred-a
Marcipex · 28/10/2021 16:18

Frida is lovely. Go for it.

PanicBuyingSprouts · 28/10/2021 16:22

I've never heard Freda as Fred-a either.

Maireas · 29/10/2021 16:56

Frida is a great name!
Not just Frida Kahlo (v cool), but also Frida from Abba!

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 29/10/2021 16:59

I know someone with 4 boys then had a girl and called her Frida....can't help thinking there are so many more nicer girls' names out there and actually just looks like l have misspelt Friday so if you go for it l would spell it Freida

znaika · 29/10/2021 17:53

It's a great name imo. I love Kahlo and the groovy brunette from ABBA - a couple of ice-cool name sakes. I dont think it's too out there for real life.

Blubells · 29/10/2021 18:19

l would spell it Freida

Nooo, that would be pronounced Fry-da!!

LetHimHaveIt · 29/10/2021 18:52

'Freda is Fred-a'

'Nooo, that (Freida) would be pronounced Fry-da!!'

Nope. No. Freda; Freida; Frieda - they're all pronounced 'Free-da'. Where the heck are you from that you think they're pronounced 'Fred-a' or 'Fry-da'? Baffling.

adrianmolesmole · 29/10/2021 19:03

Like it. I also love Freya.

LouLion · 29/10/2021 19:26

I like it

daisypond · 29/10/2021 20:05

@LetHimHaveIt

Frieda is a German name, hence the pronunciation follows German rules with -ie. It’s the second letter of the pair that is pronounced, so it sounds like Freeda. Freida makes no sense whatsoever and is a misspelling, but it would be pronounced Fry-da - because it’s the second letter that is pronounced, the I. Frida is a Spanish, for example, transliteration of the name.

Freida would be Fry-da in Germany and Freda would be Fray-da.

Frieda - the ie swapped around - would be Free-da (or Frida of course).

Blubells · 29/10/2021 22:34

Freda; Freida; Frieda - they're all pronounced 'Free-da'.

No they are not.

Freda is Fre- da

Freida is Frei (fry) -da

Frieda is Frie (free) -da

MeredithGreyishblue · 29/10/2021 22:43

Freda is Fre- da

Freida is Frei (fry) -da

Frieda is Frie (free) -da

My aunt Freda was definitely Free-da for the whole 82 years of her life.

Freda in the UK is Free-da and gas been for at least the last century

TuftyMarmoset · 29/10/2021 22:44

As well as pronunciation Freida would have a different meaning to Frieda. Friede = peace. Frei = free.

I like Frida but it would be a slightly rogue choice for me if no Scandi connection.

Chakraleaf · 29/10/2021 22:45

I like it in general, but I use Tattle, and Frida fiddlefingers is a nickname for someone...

Plump82 · 29/10/2021 22:56

I love it. So much so we called our wee cat Freda. She's named after the singer Freda Payne 😊

RAFHercules · 30/10/2021 00:04

Cool.

PinkCheetah · 31/10/2021 19:59

I like it. Sounds lovely and Scandi. Not overused at all and not crazy sounding (like some names I see)

AosSi · 31/10/2021 20:02

Another one saying it's frumpy here.

Notdoingthis · 31/10/2021 22:25

Charlotte Church has one.
