Zarene · 24/10/2021 12:01

Nah. Not a nice sound to my ears, too vowel-y.

Blueuggboots · 24/10/2021 12:03

I prefer Anya.

CucumberCool · 24/10/2021 12:07

Not to be mean but I now have 'sail away' stuck in my head....

It is a nice name though imo

daisypond · 24/10/2021 12:09

Yes, it’s fine.

TurnUpTurnip · 24/10/2021 12:09

Prefer anya

Me too. Sorry.
Bimblybomeyelash · 24/10/2021 12:10

The connection to the singer is too strong in my head, so now I’m going to be humming Sail away all day.

I much prefer Anya.

BeKindBeYou · 24/10/2021 12:25

I really like it!

Roselilly36 · 24/10/2021 12:28

I like it, sounds nice.

daisypond · 24/10/2021 12:35

You could spell it the traditional Irish way, I suppose, if you want the link to the singer to be less obvious - though her name is actually really spelled the traditional Irish way too.

Scirocco · 24/10/2021 12:37

I like it - I prefer the traditional spelling though.

riotlady · 24/10/2021 12:37

Sail away, sail away, sail away

CaptainCallisto · 24/10/2021 12:49

I work in a primary school and we currently have four between Y4 and Reception, so it seems to be growing in popularity. Probably means the singer associations will become less apparent.

MamaSia · 24/10/2021 13:02

I wouldn't use the Irish spelling because we aren't Irish but I do like it. Also nothing to do with the singer, was much before our time ha!

@CaptainCallisto do you mind me asking what area you are in?

OP posts:
CaptainCallisto · 24/10/2021 13:37

I'm in North Yorkshire

nearlywed21 · 24/10/2021 13:38

I just see Kenya without the K

DogCatRabbit · 24/10/2021 13:39

Sail away, sail away, sail away!
Strong link for anyone 40+ as she was massive for a time in the late 80s / early 90s. Pretty name but this would put me off using it.

ScrambledSmegs · 24/10/2021 13:46

It's pretty but you'll probably get loads of people singing the chorus of Orinoco Flow at you forever and a day. It might get a bit wearing!

MyOtherProfile · 24/10/2021 13:48

I love it. But then I still love Enya's music so it's a very positive connection for me.

Lol, before your time but not for many of us. Also have sail away sail away in my head. Weirdly competing with “Cheap Thrills” now I’ve seen your name 😂

Anya is pretty. Or Ena?

Snoopsnoggysnog · 24/10/2021 13:48

Sail away!

I prefer Anya too

Spidey66 · 24/10/2021 13:49

I'm old enough to know the singer, but still think it's a nice name.

Plenty of people around with singers names. Mabel for a start!

NigellaSeed · 24/10/2021 13:52

Pretty. And looks nice written down

MamaSia · 24/10/2021 14:02

I feel like every name will have its associations, so long as it's not a bad one and isn't really relevant to us or children DC's age then I don't think it matter. It will soon become their name ☺️

IAmTheLovechildOfYvesAndIsabel · 24/10/2021 14:12

Not the Orinoco Flow - please God, no.
It haunted me in the 90's and now it's in m.....sail away, sail away, sail away.
Yeah, I never comment on these name threads because if love or even like a name for your beautiful baby then go for it and I don't think it matters if the general consensus is good or bad. (Obviously not talking about Balonz or Nevaeh.)
Objectively, Enya is a nice Irish name but I just hear, well we've covered that. Anya I like but it reminds me of a perfume the Body Shop sold, similar era too.

But none of this is anything you should be bothered by obviously. If you love the name Enya, go for it!
