It's a nicer name anyway, and there are dozens of baby Luca/ Lucas/ Luciens.

If recognising Spanish heritage is important to you, I'd go with Mateo as Luca has become popular with British parents so less likely to be associated with duel heritage.

My nephew is Mateo and we don't know any others. His name isn't shortened to Matt, we do call him Teo but a lot of people do say Mateo. I like both options.

Mateo for sure. I've never liked the name Luca since the Suzanne Vega song.
