I am due with my first child in November and we still don’t have a name for this baby!!

We have kept the gender a surprise so trying to come up with a name for both a girl and a boy. We wanted a family name as the middles and debating a Christian name as another middle but we are undecided!

Girls
Inez
Astrid
Eliza
Margot
Philippa (my mums name)
Dorothy (family name)
Evelyn (family name)
Lydia (Christian name)
Eden (Christian connotations)
Delilah (Christian name)

Boys
Flynn
Jude
Bo
August
John (family and Christian name)
Fredrick (family name)
Mark (family and Christian name)

Please help us come up with a name for this little pip!

I like Dorothy Eliza Surname for a girl

I love August John surname for a boy!

PanicBuyingSprouts · 13/10/2021 14:56

Margot Phillipa or
Astrid Evelyn for a girl.

Love the suggestion of August John.

How about
Jude Frederick?

For me Lydia Dorothy Evelyn Surname (as I don't think it's fair to use the lovely Phillipa if your DP's Mum's name isn't a middle too - but it's still always nice to use family names as middles). Lydia is nicely Christian if that's what you want, but without being as obviously linked as Eden or Delilah (and it's more classic too).

John Fredrick Mark Surname for me (unless relative John is still living and it could cause confusion?) Like Lydia, John is now an underused classic and nicely Christian (without being too obviously so, thanks to it's huge popularity in the past.) John also has the benefit of trendier nn's like Jack or Johnny if that's what he wants when older.

Inez - will have spelling/prnunciation issues
Astrid - fine
Eliza - fine
Margot - very popular
Philippa (my mums name) - nice
Dorothy (family name) - nice
Evelyn (family name) - not keen
Lydia (Christian name) - nice
Eden (Christian connotations) - awful
Delilah (Christian name) - awful

Boys
Flynn - ok
Jude - don't like
Bo - smelly armpits
August - not keen
John (family and Christian name) - like a lot
Fredrick (family name) - ok
Mark (family and Christian name) - fine

Girls
Inez Astrid Philippa and Lydia are the ones I like.

Delilah and Eden are my least favourite.

Boys
Frederick and Mark are the ones I like.

August and Bo are my least favourite. August will date extremely quickly!

(Babies have a sex rather than a gender)

Inez - cool
Astrid - cool
Eliza - pretty
Margot - lovely
Philippa (my mums name) - dislike
Dorothy (family name) - nice
Evelyn (family name) - overdone
Lydia (Christian name) - Beautiful
Eden (Christian connotations) - pretty
Delilah (Christian name) - Delilah is in the bible but seems an odd choice if you're choosing it because you want a Christian name, as she wasn't good in the bible.

What about Jemimah, Elizabeth, Tabitha, Anna, Esther, Martha, Phoebe, Joy/Hope/Faith for Christian names?

Margot Jemimah
Eliza Phoebe
Lydia Joy
Inez Tabitha
These are my favourite

Namechangedforthethousandthtim · 13/10/2021 16:35

Flynn Frederick Mark is my favourite boy name. But if you like Christian/biblical names, how about Phineas nn Phin? I LOVE this name. Think it's so cool.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 13/10/2021 16:52

Christian/Cristian is very underused, as is Christopher. Would go nicely with Flynn, John or Mark.

How about Pippa as a nod to Phillipa rather than the same? Pippa Dorothy goes well.

RoseMartha · 13/10/2021 16:56

Lydia Evelyn Eliza surname

And

John Frederick Mark Surname

KittyJames2027 · 13/10/2021 17:41

I love lots of these suggestions - thank you!

I think DH and I want to use either Inez, Margot, Astrid, Flynn or Jude as first names.

With regards to middle names we were thinking Philippa or Pippa (as suggested) as we call this baby pip for some reason and we love that link.

I like the suggestion Flynn Frederick Mark that’s really lovely :)

Love Inez! So sophisticated and classy yet not heard much at all today. Absolutely perfect. I think it would go well with any of the potential middle names too!

Inez Evelyn Lydia
Inez Dorothy Eden

BubbleCoffee · 14/10/2021 00:45

Astrid Lydia Dorothy
Jude August Mark

UsernameIsHarderThanBabyName · 14/10/2021 10:49

Love the names Delilah, Dorothy, John & Frederick.

Saw another poster mention Esther - really love this name

35andThriving · 14/10/2021 11:29

The thing with Pippa is, it doesn't travel very well. It means something rude in several languages I think.

KirstenBlest · 14/10/2021 12:07

So what?

KirstenBlest · 14/10/2021 12:08

Unless you are with people who use that slang it won't affect you.

35andThriving · 14/10/2021 12:18

I'd just rather know before I named Pippa that's all.

35andThriving · 14/10/2021 12:20

I'd just rather know before I named my daughter Pippa that's all.

Blubells · 14/10/2021 12:34

I really like Dorothy and August!

Hirewiredays · 14/10/2021 18:25

Jude

KirstenBlest · 14/10/2021 20:47

Valid point @35andThriving. If nothing else, trying out names on MN is better than finding out years later that your child gets laughed at, or that you''ve given them a name that people have negative opinions on.

alpinerain · 16/10/2021 12:34

Inez - Not my taste but it's okay

Astrid - Again, not my taste but it's okay

Eliza - Beautiful yet strong sounding name. I love it!

Margot - I love it spelt Margo. The T on the end makes me think of a Maggot... Confused

Philippa (my mums name) - Nice as a middle name

Dorothy (family name) - I really don't like Dorothy, sorry.

Evelyn (family name) - Beautiful name!

Lydia (Christian name) - It's fine as a middle name

Eden (Christian connotations) - Lovely name!

Delilah (Christian name) - I love Delilah but it's worth noting that Delilah in the Bible is not a good person.

Flynn - One of those names that would suit just about anyone at any age. I love it!

Jude - An okay name

Bo - Definite no

August - Nice

John (family and Christian name) - Fine as a middle name

Fredrick (family name) - Strongly dislike

Mark (family and Christian name) - Fine as a middle name

wingsofabird · 16/10/2021 15:10

great names
I'd be really shocked (in a good way) to meet a baby Mark

resm · 18/10/2021 10:10

Margot Evelyn and Jude Mark are beautiful combinations, I think. Smile
