I love it, it’s on our list should we ever have DS2.

LouLion · 09/10/2021 07:34

I like it. A friend, also Irish, named her son this - I wasn't sure at first, but it's grown on me. Think it's more familiar due to Cillian Murphy.

RuthW · 09/10/2021 08:35

I don't like it. Will get pronounced sometimes as Sillian and don't like shortened version of kill.

LizzieAnt · 09/10/2021 09:18

Where are you living OP?

toastofthetown · 09/10/2021 09:20

I like Cillian. It’s a nice name.

MaudebeGonne · 09/10/2021 09:21

I really like it. I think it will work internationally as it is pretty much pronouncd how it is spelt.

DeireadhFomhair · 09/10/2021 09:28

I love it, it's a great name!

R0tational · 09/10/2021 09:48

I didnt like it when Isaw it but I had never heard of it. When you mentioned origins and pronounciation (i assumed sillian!), I really like it now. Sounds noble.

Suspicioussam · 09/10/2021 10:55

I have one! I love it it obviously.
If you are in the UK it will get mispronounced Sillian but one correction and people get it. People tend to love the name, we get lots of compliments. He gets called Cilly as a nickname.
It also works surprisingly well internationally. There are Kilians and Kylians and Killians in France and Germany and I'm sure other places too. It's also not that common over here at all, I know it's very popular in Ireland.

Quire · 09/10/2021 11:01

It’s a nice name. DS, who was born in England, has a far more unusual (and non-phonetic to English people) Irish name and surname, and people managed fine, if told how to pronounce it. Unless you’re the kind of person who is crushed by GP receptionists mispronouncing your name, it was never an issue.

Buttons294749 · 09/10/2021 13:25

Love it. Reminds me of the fabulous cillian murphy+

feckingknackered · 09/10/2021 13:30

I love it, was on my list but we went for something even more unusual

KirstenBlest · 09/10/2021 14:18

It's not that unusual.
You will get people trying to say Sillian or Gillian.

Marcipex · 09/10/2021 15:39

I have to force my brain away from Silly an.
But I know that’s me, not the name. I think it’s because Cilla Black pervaded my childhood.

Muttly · 09/10/2021 15:41

Love it. It was on our list.

CiderJolly · 09/10/2021 15:42

Love it!

Kite22 · 09/10/2021 15:45

Because I've read this thread, I'm going to presume it is pronounced "Kill -y-an" rather than "Sill-y-an" ?
But without this thread, I looked at it and saw "Silly Anne" in truth.

From a previous poster, I see I'm not alone, so I suppose it depends if you think coming across many of us like that would be annoying ?
