My husband came across the name Uzziah (u·zai·uh) and said he liked it. I'm not sure how I feel about it. We are in the US, New York to be exact. Is the name too out there?

I like it with just 1 z, Uziah, but that would be an alternate spelling for it. When I see the 2 z's I feel like it's unnecessary and hectic, could just be me.

What do you think of this name?

Any middle name suggestions?
I saw Uzziah Beckham on an online suggestion and thought it didn't sound bad.

????

It seems to be Isiah with the wrong spelling?

I’m not keen. Don’t like the uzz.

It's ok but a bit ugly sounding and King Uzziah's pride led him to being cursed with leprosy... Are you religious?

How about Azariah or Isaiah?

Beckham? No...

I know 3 people who have a very unusual name, all of them wish they didn’t

It’s Isaiah spelt wrong.

Do you have any particular link to David Beckham as people will assume you’re huge fans if you use it as a middle name.

UpInTheAttic · 04/10/2021 14:10

I quite like it but, like you, I prefer just one Z.

While I don't doubt it, there are many of us who have boring normal names but would love to have been given more unusual names Grin

Uzziah is not Isaiah spelled wrong.

Uzziah is the name of one of the kings from the bible.

Uzziah was a king, Isaiah was a prophet. They're different people, different names, and different pronounciations:
Isaiah is: eye-zay-uh
Uzziah is U-zeye-uh (with the middle sound rhyming with the word eye).

I don't love Uzziah as like a PP said, he was struck down with leprosy as a punishment so not the nicest namesake. There's also something about names beginning with U that make me think of UTIs and urinary tracts and urine in general, although that's probably just me.

If you like this style of name, how about:
Zephaniah
Isaiah
Josiah
Judah
Zechariah

But please don't consider Beckham as a middle name. Beckham is awful! And not a name. It's a surname! People would think you were just massive David Beckham fans.

UpInTheAttic · 04/10/2021 14:27

Oh, I missed the Beckham part! Definitely not Beckham!!

Heruka · 04/10/2021 14:32

I quite like the sound, although I’ve never heard of it. I think making it one z would then be Oo-zia which sounds like oozing and not good. But Uzziah I think worth considering. Beckham is awful to UK ears because of David Beckham. And fwiw I have a name that is very unusual in the UK but common in another, and I love that I’ve never met someone with the same name as me - I’d be appalled!!

Uzziah is U-zeye-uh (with the middle sound rhyming with the word eye).

That is the American pronunciation of Isaiah. In the UK 'Isaiah' is pronounced eye-zeye-uh. Uzziah is pronounced similarly (same as US pronunciation).
