How would you pronounce Arran?

We are calling our baby Arran as my partner is Scottish and there is a beautiful place there called the Isle of Arran which we have visited together. I am English so I don’t really know but apparently the name is fairly popular in Scotland. We pronounce it the same way I would pronounce Aaron (“Arren”) - is that how you read it too?

I would pronounce it the same as you.

I'd also pronounce Aaron the same way (arun, not air-ron).

I imagine with Arran some people might put the emphasis on the second syllable - so a-RAN.

I would pronounce Arran as arrun and Aaron the traditional biblical way, air-ron.

I went to school with an Aaron pronounced air-ron and that's how I heard it pronounced by my very Catholic religious studies teachers, and in church.

I've only heard Aaron pronounced like Arran in recent years amongst younger people.

Agree with pp.

Arran is much less likely to be mispronounced than Aaron as surely everyone has heard of the island, whereas Aaron genuinely has two seemingly equally popular pronunciations (my default is Air-on as the traditional way).

I would pronounce it the same as you. Like Darren, with out the D. But I'm Scottish.

I do know an English Arran. I haven't heard of any difficulties with his name being pronounced wrongly.

We had a girl called Arran at school, never any pronunciation issues.
