Sibling Set

What is everyone’s opinion on sibling set Felix and Anthea? I love old fashioned names and love the potential nicknames for this set (Fox and Panther). One of my favourite children’s books as a child had a character called Anthea and her siblings called her panther, and I’ve noticed a few posts on here nickname Fox for Felix.

OK, I'll bite. I think most people are not replying as it looks like a wind-up post.
I would get confused about a Felix (cat-like name) being called Fox (dog family).
Then another animal in the mix, Panther.
Plus Anthea is now going to be associated with Anthea Turner in many people's minds. Wouldn't have been so bad if she had faded into history, but she re-emerged with loads of anti-lockdown anti-obesity crap during the pandemic, which is in the forefront of my mind about her.

I much prefer the name Fox to Felix so would just use that

I'm not a fan of Anthea at all but at the end of the day everyone has different tastes and if you and your partner love them then go for it

Thanks for replying. It’s not a wind-up post I am genuinely interested in peoples opinions. I didn’t think it would be taken that way. Just to be clear they’re not my children’s names nor am I planning on naming future children that, I was just wondering what people’s thoughts were on them as a sibling set.

Those nicknames are stretches. One would be ok (if you are ok with the fact that that Fox might be dropped totally by the time he is four) but Fox and Panther would have me rolling my eyes to be honest.

Five children and It series are lovely! I like both the name together and anthea panther made me smile from reading the books but I really dislike Fox as a nickname for felix.

MurielSpriggs · 28/09/2021 11:14

I've never heard of the expression "sibling-set". It all seems a bit like turning your family into a brand. Do you engineer the pregnancies to get babies of the correct sex?

I do remember a family near us when I was a kid with children Darren, Karen and Sharon.

Blubells · 28/09/2021 13:00

If you want Fox, name your child Fox!

Felix is a completely different name, and Felix is a cat 🐈‍⬛!

Anthea is a lovely name.

MN are utterly ridiculous with nicknames sometimes. Fox and Panther are very contrived, not natural nicknames at all, regardless of the fact they are pretty awful. It would be like suggesting Fart as a nickname for Martin, simply because they share some sounds.

Nahhh · 28/09/2021 13:23

Anthea and Felix could be Ant and Cat. Have a Dec too and you’d have all of SMTV. Wonky donkey anyone?

A relative named Martin was called Mart the Fart as a child (and still is sometimes!)

😂😂😂

This just makes it even weirder! Confused

One of my favourite children’s books as a child had a character called Anthea and her siblings called her panther...

Oh, I remember this! It's from the E. Nesbit "Psammead" series: 1902 Five Children and It, 1904 The Phoenix and the Carpet, 1906 The Story of the Amulet.

I like Anthea - Panther aside, it can also be Annie or Thea. Anthea/Panther and Felix/Fox are nice as long as you're OK with the children wanting to use the full name or another short form as teens or adults.

Anthea is...sorry...a truly horrible name.
