Hello...massively stuck and need your help! I've just had my baby and stuck between 2 names Flora-Belle and Dulcie-Belle...which one is best? Thankyou in advance-she needs a name!

Could you have Belle as a middle name?

whatausername · 22/09/2021 18:41

Adora-belle.

whatausername · 22/09/2021 18:44

In seriousness, I'd go for Flora and make Belle a middle name. People use the second part of hyphenated names as much as they use middles names. Less even as you might use your middle initial on some things. I've yet to meet an adult who, when it comes up that they've a hyphenated forename, hasn't rolled their eyes and said e.g. "Just Emma is fine."

Kanaloa · 22/09/2021 18:45

I would go Flora Belle, but not as one name. I really like Flora Dulcie if that’s on the cards, I think that’s a really sweet name.

WoozySnoozy · 22/09/2021 18:45

Flora reminds me of margarine

Elisemum · 22/09/2021 20:02

If you have to chose between these two then Flora Belle - but only ever as a name + middle name.

Synchrony · 22/09/2021 20:04

I prefer Flora-Belle. I actually prefer Dulcie on its own, but Dulcie-Belle sounds like Decibel when said out loud.

DramaAlpaca · 22/09/2021 20:12

I don't like Dulcie at all, and neither do I like hyphenated names.

I vote for Flora, with Belle as a non-hyphenated middle name.

annacondom · 22/09/2021 20:17

I really like both Dulcie and Flora, but not hyphenated. Hyphenated sounds like one from the list of names in Ted. Dulcie is sweet, and I knew a really cool girl called Flora. Belle is too popular bc of Holly Willoughby's dd.

BeKindBeYou · 22/09/2021 20:21

Flora Bell sounds lovely :) I do prefer this as first and middle name though.

KirstenBlest · 22/09/2021 20:24

Dorabelle

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 22/09/2021 21:22

Flora Belle is nice. Dulcie Belle is a bit too close in sound to Decibel for me (also not keen on a name that has the "dull" sound in it). I wouldn't hyphenate personally - you can still call her the full "Flora Belle" but I think it looks more elegant without the hyphen.

You might also want to consider other less common "Belle" names like Christabel or Mirabel?

YorkshireSunshine · 22/09/2021 21:26

I’d go Flora Belle Flowers

Leeloo1233 · 23/09/2021 07:26

Dulcie is pretty! Congrats Flowers

VitalsStable · 23/09/2021 07:53

I think they're both dreadfully twee. Dulcie quite pretty alone though. (Drop the hyphenated idea)

Gorl · 23/09/2021 07:59

Honestly, neither are great. Flora is lovely on its own, and I quite like Dulcie, but the addition of the Belle makes them both really twee and a bit naff. Flora-Belle sounds like some kind of menopause supplement and Dulcie-Belle just makes me think ‘decibel’.

I would ditch the Belle on the basis that it’s naff and, hyphenated names are getting dated now anyway, and pick from the two nice first names instead.

KirstenBlest · 23/09/2021 08:35

Flora is nice. I don't like Dulcie at all - I hear Dull.

Belle is just about ok as a middle name but -Belle isn't great. I'd go for Flora and use Flora-Belle as a nn while she's tiny. I'd go for something like Elizabeth or Isabel as a middle name if you want the Belle association.

Fivebeanchilli · 23/09/2021 08:47

Flora is lovely.
I know 4 Dulcies under the age of 2 so I think that might be becoming very popular.
I dislike hyphenated names. Belle is a nice enough middle name but I agree with the pp that Flora Dulcie is a great name.

Balonzette · 23/09/2021 10:21

Flora is gorgeous. But not hyphenated with Belle! That just ruins the name completely. I'm sorry. I'm not meaning this in a horrible way, but just because it would be such a shame to ruin and cheapen a beautiful name with a hyphen.
Flora Belle would be lovely.
But Flora-Belle is a bit... Country and Western. It sounds like something Cleatus off The Simpsons would name one of his many offspring.
Can you imagine shouting "Flora-Belle!" in the playground?
Flora as a first, with Belle as a middle, would be so much nicer.
Dulcie isn't that nice, imo, and it's very faddy. It will date badly.
But even Dulcie Belle would be fine, just not Dulcie-Belle.

Betsybanshee · 23/09/2021 10:24

Dulcie with Belle as a middle name without the Hyphen.

Congratulations..Flowers

user147856 · 23/09/2021 10:46

As pps say, might be an idea to keep 'Belle' as a separate name.
Also decibel is a feasible issue.
I like Flora much better as well.

TheWonderCat · 23/09/2021 19:45

Belle hyphenated is awful, way too twee and cutesy it sounds like you’re naming a cow not someone who will one day be an adult. Flora is much nicer than Dulcie.

Skyla2005 · 23/09/2021 19:57

Dulcie is lovely but i don't like belle sorry

user1493494961 · 24/09/2021 09:24

Flora and Dulcie are both nice. Dislike Belle, but if you must have it, drop the hyphen, I agree with pp about the 'decibel' issue and Flora-belle sounds like an air freshener.

ofwarren · 24/09/2021 09:32

Out of those two I would choose Flora-Belle
