Baby due any second!! And we still don't have names we're completely in love with - starting to get a bit stressed out!!

So far for girls our shortlist (or names we both haven't veto'd!) is:

Mia
Eva
Diana
Matilda (Tillie?)

And for boys we have

Thomas (Tommy)
Jack
Max
Hugo
Andrew

Any votes? (Or better suggestions?!)

DH also really likes Elijah, which I'm not 100% on, and I also like Anna and Holly, which he's not really 100% on....

Girl name in order of preference:

  1. Matilda (Tillie?)
  2. Diana
  3. Mia
  4. Eva

Boys:

  1. Thomas (Tommy)
  2. Max
  3. Andrew
  4. Jack
  5. Hugo
AnyaMoondial · 21/09/2021 19:02

All good names, although I still associate Diana with THE Diana.

My favourites are Eva and Mia, Jack and Max.

I love Anna and Holly as well. Elijah always sounds very biblical to me so less keen on that.

MrsDoylesLastTeabag · 21/09/2021 19:05

My order of preference

  1. Mia - I LOVE this name.
  2. Eva - Very classic and pretty BUT there are an awful lots of Evies around...
  3. Matilda (Tillie?) - but prefer Tilda.
  4. Diana - just feels very bland and old-fashioned to me.
  1. Thomas (Tommy) - nice as both a grown-up and child name.
  2. Hugo - smart!
  3. Jack - Ok
  4. Max - Meh
  5. Andrew - Nice enough name but feels dated - I know too many who are my own age - 40s/50s.
anonymousanne · 21/09/2021 19:06

If I had a girl I would have called her Emilia and her nickname would have been Mia.

mairiflowers · 21/09/2021 19:06

Mia and Andrew would be my choices Smile

whatausername · 21/09/2021 19:24

Diana 1000%. If not then Matilda.

I like Max and Hugo from your list. Andrew is fine but not my taste.

Lindy2 · 21/09/2021 19:27

Thomas/Tommy or Jack for a boy.

Holly or Matilda for a girl.

opinionminion · 21/09/2021 19:27

Matilda and Hugo Smile

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 21/09/2021 20:14

Of your girls, I really love classic but underused Diana. Eva is also classic and lovely if much more popular. Matilda and Mia are too trendy for me (I know Matilda is ancient but it seems to have had a huge popularity surge in the last 10/15 years).

How about Maria? - timeless and you can use Mia as a nn if wanted.

Not keen on Hugo (a bit trendy again now) but Hugh is lovely. Andrew feels a touch dated now I think, even though it's a classic name (reminds me of my 80's school class - the boys were mostly Stevens, Andrews, Christophers, Marks and Simons) - plus I hate nn Andy, sorry.

Can't go wrong with your other boy choices though, as long as you don't care about popularity - Thomas, Jack and Max are all very nice.

DramaAlpaca · 21/09/2021 20:16

I like Eva and Matilda. I've never liked Diana and Mia is a bit nothingy.

I like all the boys' names apart from Hugo.

KirstenBlest · 21/09/2021 21:44

Diana and Andrew, because they are more unusual

Mia, Eva and Matilda are a bit worn out now

I like all the boy's names but if I had to choose one it would be Thomas, but Tommy seems a bit Peaky Blinders at the mo.

user1493494961 · 21/09/2021 22:05

Matilda and Max.

upaladderagain · 21/09/2021 23:06

Matilda and Tom ( Tommy only until he's 4)
Second choices Max and Eva.

sunflowerdaisies · 22/09/2021 00:06

The only ones I don't like are Diana and Hugo.

I've probably go Matilda or Thomas/Jack but like the rest you mentioned.

Ginandplatonic · 22/09/2021 00:13

I’d go for Matilda or Diana from your girls list. Eva is nice but the Evie names are everywhere. Mia is a meh name for me.

I like all your boys list. Andrew would be refreshing and unusual so I’d go for that.

urbanbuddha · 22/09/2021 01:42

Matilda
Jack

MrsTerryPratchett · 22/09/2021 01:56

@urbanbuddha

Matilda Jack
I second this.
gumball37 · 22/09/2021 02:19

Matilda
Hugo

Amz6219 · 22/09/2021 11:08
  1. Matilda (Tilly)
  2. Eva
  3. Mia
  4. Diana
  1. Max
  2. Hugo
  3. Jack
  4. Thomas (Tommy)
  5. Andrew
IAmWomxxnHearMeRoar · 22/09/2021 11:18

Andrew, Diana and Holly are the least "in trend" from that list. Perfectly well known of course, but your LO will probably not ever have to share their name with anyone from the same generation.

ChnandlerBong · 22/09/2021 13:18

can't move for girls called Mia/Maya/Mya in my dd's years so would always avoid that. Is Lia/Leah any good as an alternative?

Tilly/Eva/Evie are all really pretty I think.

not sure about Diana - still seems a bit old fashioned? Love Anna - could you talk dh round to Annabel/Anneli/Rosanna?

Fivebeanchilli · 25/09/2021 00:20

Mia - it's fine. But it's a bit bland. And there are so many
Eva - again it's nice. Inoffensive. But so so popular
Diana - I can't get past Princess Diana and somehow that taints it for me
Matilda (Tillie?) - I really like this. It's popular but not as bland as some other popular names

Other suggestions: Lyra, Ada, Mabel, Lucia, Lucy

Thomas (Tommy) - nice enough. I know hundreds but it's a substantial nice name
Jack - really nice. Popular for a good reason.
Max - I've never met a nice Max (despite having met lots) but I'm sure they exist! It's nice enough, I find it a bit meh
Hugo - gorgeous. I love this and it feels so much better than your other names
Andrew - ok. Dated but maybe due a revival

Kanaloa · 25/09/2021 01:24

Eva, Thomas & Max are lovely. All the other names are equally nice, honestly you could pick one at random and you couldn’t go wrong with this list!

MrsBertBibby · 25/09/2021 06:38

Anna is by far your best.
Eva
Mia
Diana
Matilda (dislike)

Max & Thomas both great
Not mad on Jack
Hugo I dislike
Andrew : prince. Ugh.

FASDE1517 · 25/09/2021 06:59

Matilda and Hugo. By a long way!
