Thoughts on this name? Especially as a given name. I really like it but not a fan of Constance. Also, thoughts on using a full name on birth certificate but never using it in real life. Is this just a headache in reality with having to constantly tell people your preferred name?

I think Connie sounds a bit twee as a full name. But if you don't like Constance I wouldn't use that either, as she might grow up and want to ditch Connie for her her full name then you're stuck with a name you don't actually like. Using a nickname isn't a headache, especially for something as intuitive as Constance/Connie. You'd just introduce her as Connie everywhere, expect for things like registering at the doctor or bank where a full legal name is needed.

It’s a nice name and I like both full name and nn. It’s completely up to you. Only thing to remember is that while you and your family would use Connie you simply can’t make others use it…so for example a doctor or a teacher would probably say Constance (at least at first). And there could be a case when your daughter is older that she will actually prefer to introduce herself as Constance. Either way is very nice to me, but just keep that in mind in case you really really don’t like using/hearing Constance.

I love Constance.

Connie is cute whilst small.

Blubells · 21/09/2021 11:58

People would assume that Connie is short for Constance.

yikesanotherbooboo · 21/09/2021 12:07

I agree with Blubells. There will be an assumption that her name is Constance. I love Connie and Constance .

RuthW · 21/09/2021 12:12

I like Connie but only if Constance is the full name.

MrsDoylesLastTeabag · 21/09/2021 19:19

I don't like it... Constance is an uptight virtue name and Connie just reminds me of con (as in con artist). Sorry.

DramaAlpaca · 21/09/2021 19:20

I love it, but only if it's short for Constance.

RiotAtTheRodeo · 21/09/2021 19:42

It could be short for Cornelia too. Or Corinne?

But if you love Connie just use that!

upaladderagain · 21/09/2021 23:15

Love Constance. Also Prudence, Verity and Liberty.
Good old virtue names.

Balonzette · 22/09/2021 11:01

Love Connie

SeanChailleach · 22/09/2021 13:55

Is Connie not a name? I know two who have never been known as anything else. There are other names it can be short for.
Cornelia
Consuela
Consolata
Condolisa
Constanza, Constanta, Constantina
Concepta
Conrada

Nice! I know a few. One of them is definitely Constance.

I'd probably go with Connie on the BC. I normally prefer longer names on the BC, but I also don't love Constance and think Connie is fine on its own.

Quercus3 · 23/09/2021 09:23

Love Connie! Think it's fine as a name in it's own right, doesn't need a longer name. I know a few of different ages, I think it is a good name at every age. Lovely choice.
